These characters, who observed the gruesome tournament, didn’t resonate well with viewers due to their dialogue and acting that seemed out of sync.

During certain scenes, there were noticeable moments of discomfort that almost impacted the entire production, as the VIP characters are crucial in the final season. Bryan Bucco, who portrayed one of these VIPs, has now shared the reason behind their peculiar voices – some of them were indeed dubbed over.

In response to a TikTok video that criticized their acting, Bucco clarified that the voice heard for his character in the video wasn’t his own; instead, he stated, “These are English dubs.” He went on to explain that he was the original actor, but the voice being played in the video wasn’t his.

I’ve got to clarify that I’m not faulting the voice actor who dubbed me. To be honest, I was puzzled as to why they chose to change my original voice. Here’s the thing, it appears they brought in voice actors to mimic our voices, and I wouldn’t dare criticize my own voice actor. Frankly, I believe he did an admirable job given the challenges of delivering lines. Ain’t that right?

Bucco pointed out an interesting fact – some renditions of the show preserve his original voice, while others employ dubbing. He explained, ‘I’ve noticed various clips online where my voice can be heard, and others that clearly don’t belong to me.’ He added, ‘Ultimately, it doesn’t make much difference. If a clip seems dubbed, then it likely is. The voices in the video above are indeed dubbed.’

As a film enthusiast, I concur with the viewers who pointed out that Bryan Bucco’s character, the American VIP in the eagle mask, didn’t contribute significantly to the narrative. In fact, he acknowledged this by saying, “I agree, they didn’t enhance or mesh well with the storyline.” He even agreed when someone referred to them as ‘useless.’

Bucco isn’t certain about the reason for the dubbing, but suspects that Netflix might have played a role. Interestingly, he mentioned that he watched a version from an unauthorized site, which didn’t feature the dubbed voices. He further explained that if there is someone contracted to do the dubbing, they would handle all dubbing tasks. As such, the default language for English dubs should be different from the original Korean version. If any English dubs are present in the Korean version, it could only be due to specific lines needing to be re-recorded for better clarity.
