And here’s the official synopsis for We Bury the Dead:
Following a devastating military defeat, the deceased don’t stay buried – they come back as hunters. The army claims these risen people are slow and pose no threat, offering some comfort to those who’ve lost loved ones. However, when Ava (Daisy Ridley) ventures into a restricted area to find her husband, she discovers a terrifying reality: the undead are becoming increasingly aggressive, unstoppable, and deadly with each hour that passes.
In the film, Ridley plays Ava Newman, a woman determined to find her husband alive amidst the devastation. Despite the slim chances, she joins a team tasked with recovering bodies and enters the dangerous quarantine zone. However, she soon realizes the disaster is stranger and more unsettling than anyone initially thought. The movie appears to be a post-apocalyptic horror story, similar to recent films like 28 Years Later, using a large-scale zombie outbreak to represent themes of grief and loss. Hopefully, it will be just as captivating.
The film We Bury the Dead premiered at South by Southwest earlier this year and will be released in U.S. theaters on January 2nd.
