‘We Are Enormously Proud’: The Rings Of Power Creators Break Down Season Two’s Grand Finale And More

As a long-time fan of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth saga, I must admit that The Rings of Power has exceeded my expectations with its second season. The climactic Sauron-Galadriel face-off was nothing short of spectacular, and the revelation of The Stranger as Gandalf the Grey added a layer of depth that I didn’t know I needed.

Spoiler alert for The Rings of Power season 2!

If there’s anything about the LOTR spin-off that’s meant to keep the viewers hooked, it’s their epic fight sequences. The show creators had promised to deliver battles on a grander scale in season two, and undoubtedly, they stood by it as one of the highlights was the climactic Sauron-Galadriel face-off!

In a recent conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, show creators JD Payne and Patrick McKay discussed various aspects of season two, delving into the thrilling finale and major disclosure. Furthermore, they hinted at potential hidden references for season three that viewers should keep an eye out for. Recall the enigmatic figure from season one known as The Stranger? The character’s true identity was ultimately revealed in a surprising twist – it turned out to be none other than Gandalf the Grey.

In our investigation, we had suspicions about who Daniel Weyman’s character might develop into. As the story progressed, it began to align more and more with Gandalf, making it seem increasingly plausible. Given that Gandalf shared an unusual bond with the Halfling and frequently visited the Shire despite being a wizard, he fit the piece together perfectly.

The creator mused, ‘Imagine if at some point during his life, he found himself in the troubled land of Middle-earth without any recollection of his past identity.’ In this scenario, it’s possible that descendants of the Hobbits might have discovered him and formed a bond, leaving him indebted to them.

Incorporating a revised portrayal of Gandalf’s personal growth journey and crafting an intricate climax for the confrontation between Sauron and Galadriel has enriched the overall narrative of the series with deeper layers of meaning.

In theory, his actions can only destroy her physical being, but since Galadriel appears to have powers beyond what he anticipated, the question arises: How will she manage to win, given that it seems he holds all the advantages? This is according to McKay’s perspective.

He simply stated that we’re incredibly proud of season two, thanks to the outstanding performances by our talented cast,” he continued. McKay further assured fans that the third season will only get better. You can watch The Rings of Power season two on Amazon Prime Video now.
