During an interview with People, Mandie Taketa expressed her primary concern being the mental well-being of Wayne Brady, who was anticipating a child with Tina. She stated, “I felt particularly anxious about Wayne’s mental state given the circumstances.”
A few months after divorcing his friend and ex-wife Taketa, Brady started seeing Tina. This was around the same time as Taketa’s mother passed away, leaving her deeply concerned about how Brady was coping with his recent marital split. Meanwhile, Brady learned that his former girlfriend was pregnant, a revelation he received following the funeral of his own grandmother in the Virgin Islands. Val Henry was the name given to their newborn son.
Taketa shared her joy and affection for the new addition to their family, exclaiming, “The more, the better! Our family is expanding, and I can’t wait!” However, she admitted, “As a Pisces, I have this feeling deep within me. But yes, I did have some worries.”

According to Brady, the most important thing for him was to bring up his son, Val, with immense love and nurturing. He expressed this sentiment to People magazine, stating, “I don’t ever want Val to think he should be ashamed or look back and feel, ‘My dad didn’t want me,’ or be ashamed of me.” Brady treats Val with the same affection he has always shown Maile, ensuring both children grow up feeling equally loved. He explained further, “I want him, uniquely, to understand that I love him just as much as I love Maile, who is my flesh and blood and a part of me. So I had to put in the effort.”
