Watch These ONE PIECE Anime Episodes to Get Ready for Season 2

It’s no surprise that the world of One Piece is incredibly vast. With over 1175 manga chapters, a similar number of anime episodes, and 16 movies, it’s one of the biggest franchises out there. That means Netflix has plenty of source material to draw from for its live-action series.

I’m so excited for the second season of the live-action adaptation, which starts next week! As a huge fan of the original One Piece anime and manga, I know a lot of us are wondering how it stacks up. So, I’ve put together a list of episodes you can rewatch to get ready and compare everything when the new season drops. Let’s get hyped!

Editor’s Note: This piece contains minor spoilers from the One Piece anime.

One Piece Loguetown Anime Arc Episodes to Watch for Season 2

Episodes: 45, 48-53

The new season’s tagline, “Enter the Grand Line,” fits perfectly. So far, the story has largely focused on Luffy – who is destined to become King of the Pirates – gathering his crew. Loguetown feels like the end of that initial phase, a final stop before they embark on the Grand Line. Interestingly, it’s also the birthplace and execution site of the previous Pirate King, Gold Roger.

As a huge One Piece fan, this arc really hooked me! We meet some characters who become major players later on – Captain Smoker, Zoro’s playful rival Tashigi, and even the legendary Dragon! It’s funny how different their names are, but trust me, they’re all incredibly important. Plus, we get to see Zoro get some awesome new swords in a way that’s totally classic Zoro, Nami being her usual clever self when it comes to bargaining (even with the crew!), and some really cool new Devil Fruits are revealed. Sanji, of course, finds some amazing food, Luffy continues to be… well, Luffy, and the arc gives you this awesome feeling that the Straw Hats are about to embark on something huge and that there’s so much more to the story than meets the eye. It’s a fantastic setup for everything that comes next!

One Piece Reverse Mountain Anime Arc Episodes to Watch for Season 2

Episodes: 61-63

Having just escaped Loguetown, the Straw Hat crew quickly runs into trouble – a whale! As you might guess, the whale swallows their ship whole, seemingly ending their adventure right then and there.

Putting the humor aside, the Reverse Mountain arc is brief but heartwarming. It introduces Laboon, a gentle whale, and Crocus, his gruff caretaker, who is surprisingly inspired by Luffy and his crew. Laboon’s story sets up a key character for later in the series and includes the memorable One Piece song, “Binks Sake.”

Yohohoho, indeed.

One Piece Whiskey Peak Anime Arc Episodes to Watch for Season 2

Episodes: 64-67

We’ve now officially entered the Grand Line! Whiskey Peak is the first big island the Straw Hat crew explores, and it’s where they encounter the dangerous criminal group, Baroque Works. However, things aren’t always what they appear to be…

The crew gets into some hilarious, alcohol-fueled trouble, and Nami continues to be a clever trickster. Zoro finds himself battling a huge crowd of people trying to capture the Straw Hats. We also meet Miss All Sunday, a fascinating new agent from Baroque Works who’s hiding a lot more than meets the eye—and she has amazing style!

One Piece Little Garden Anime Arc Episodes to Watch for Season 2

Episodes: 70-77

After encountering whales and a wild party, the Straw Hat crew arrives at Little Garden, an island overrun with dinosaurs! They’ll battle several agents from Baroque Works, including the particularly strong Mr. 3. But amidst the action, keep an eye out for a hilarious scene featuring Zoro – it’s one of the funniest in the whole series!

Seriously, this arc is wild! Not only are we dealing with dinosaurs and a super dangerous villain who controls wax – like, what?! – but it also throws in these two massive Giants, Dorry and Brogy, who have been battling each other for a hundred years! It’s just non-stop action and craziness.

One Piece Drum Island Anime Episodes to Watch for Season 2

Episodes: 78-91

After the adventure at Little Garden, Nami suddenly becomes very sick, forcing the crew to land on Drum Island. But the island is gripped by a harsh winter and suffering under the cruel rule of King Wapol. Luffy and Sanji set out to find Dr. Kureha, one of the last doctors on the island, who lives high up on a dangerous mountain.

Most importantly, this arc introduces Chopper, a sweet, innocent reindeer who loves cotton candy and dreams of becoming a doctor who can cure all diseases. After Luffy convinces him to join, Chopper becomes the Straw Hat crew’s doctor. Beyond that, the arc reveals more about the legendary Gold Roger, introduces the important character Portgas D. Ace, and includes one of the most visually stunning scenes from the beginning of One Piece.

Here’s to seeing how, and what, Netflix’s live-action One Piece adaptation chooses to bring to life.
