Get ready for the Muppets! A new special featuring Kermit, Miss Piggy, and all your favorite characters is coming to Disney+ and ABC on February 4th. A sneak peek shows plenty of music, laughs, and the usual Muppet mayhem. They’ll be performing at the original Muppet Theatre with a special appearance by Sabrina Carpenter.
Alex Timbers directed the special and also worked as an executive producer. Joining him as executive producers are Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Alex McAtee, David Lightbody, Leigh Slaughter, Michael Steinbach, Sabrina Carpenter, Albertina Rizzo, Matt Vogel, and Eric Jacobson. The project is a partnership between 20th Television, Disney Branded Television, The Muppets Studio, and Point Grey Pictures.

“The Muppet Show” was a huge hit around the world, first appearing on television from 1976 to 1981 and broadcast in over 100 countries. Each episode featured special guest stars, including popular musicians and performers like Elton John, Johnny Cash, and Diana Ross. The show received numerous awards during its five seasons, such as Emmys, Grammys, and Peabodys.
I remember when Time magazine declared it “the most popular television entertainment now being produced on Earth” – it was incredible! And can you believe it’s almost 50 years old? It’s amazing that all five seasons are now available to stream on Disney+, so a whole new generation can enjoy it too.
As a lifelong Muppet fan, I’m thrilled to hear that the folks who really know these characters are back for this new special! Dave Goelz, who’s been bringing the Muppets to life since the very beginning – over 50 years, can you believe it? – is returning as Gonzo and Dr. Bunsen Honeydew. And it’s not just him; Bill Barretta, Eric Jacobson, Peter Linz, David Rudman, and Matt Vogel are all involved, along with a whole team of incredibly talented performers. It’s wonderful knowing the legacy is in such capable hands!
