Watch a Compilation of Actors You May Not Know Who Auditioned for BACK TO THE FUTURE

In simple terms, “Back to the Future” is an all-time classic film boasting a massive fanbase, including me among them. Starring Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Thomas F. Wilson, and Lea Thompson, it’s difficult not to picture anyone else in these roles. But for those curious about who else could have landed the main parts in this time-travel film, check out the video below (originally spotted on Laughing Squid), which features auditions for the movie.

These old audition tapes are exclusively from a bonus feature found in the Blu-ray version of “Back to the Future”. Several familiar faces from various projects were among the contenders. Notably, Ben Stiller, Jon Cryer, and C. Thomas Howell tried out for Marty McFly. The bonus feature also revealed auditions for other characters. Peter DeLuise and Billy Zane were possibilities for the Biff Tannen role instead of Thomas F. Wilson. Kyra Sedgwick auditioned for Jennifer Parker, Marty’s girlfriend. It’s worth mentioning that many young actors who auditioned went on to have successful careers in the entertainment industry.

Stiller has been a part of popular film franchises such as Zoolander and Madagascar, but if you’re like me, you recognize his masterpiece as the Night at the Museum series. Just as Cryer gained fame portraying Duckie in Pretty in Pink, Howell is well-known for his character Ponyboy in The Outsiders. You might recall that Zane was ultimately chosen to play Match in Back to the Future, although he initially auditioned for the role of Biff.

In case you’d like to reminisce with Robert Zemeckis’ timeless work, unfortunately, it isn’t currently offered through streaming services. Instead, you can rent or buy it from platforms such as Amazon Prime Video or YouTube.
