As a lifestyle expert with a rich background in royal history and personalities, I have always admired the grace and poise of Queen Elizabeth II. After reading Samantha Cohen’s interview with The Sunday Times, my respect for her has only grown deeper.
As an ardent admirer, I’ve long held Queen Elizabeth in high esteem, revering her as one of our nation’s most gracious and revered figures. In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Samantha Cohen, her most trusted confidante, shared some delightful anecdotes about the Queen. Among these cherished memories was her affection for driving cars around Balmoral Castle – a charming glimpse into her private life that only served to endear her further to me.
For nearly 18 years, Cohen served as a personal attendant to her royal highness before she passed away at the age of 96 in September 2022.
Cohen characterized the queen as someone who was both “reserved” yet “bold.” During a subsequent interview with the news outlet, a royal insider disclosed that Elizabeth enjoyed spending ample time at Balmoral Castle and would frequently extend invitations for other relatives to join her during summer months.
Cohen elaborated that she found great joy in organizing royal summers. She took pleasure in welcoming everyone, assigning rooms, and even inspecting them personally.
Regarding Cohen, an Australian by birth, she had been employed with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex earlier. In 2018, she made a shift in her career to serve as the Queen’s personal secretary.
Speaking about the late royal, her assistant shared that she often drove quickly in her cars at Balmoral. The former monarch was indeed quite daring. Beyond cars, it’s worth mentioning that she also had a passion for horseback riding.
Cohen reminisced about how frequently her children would cross paths with the queen while she was riding her horse. Recalling those mornings, she said, “Sometimes I’d be preparing breakfast, and they’d exclaim, ‘Mom! The Queen just passed by on her horse.’ On other occasions, they’d run into her on their bicycles.” She went on to mention that the queen appreciated families enjoying themselves and being interested in what everyone was up to.
Samantha mentioned that the Queen warmly welcomed her and her children, with a personal touch: She personally chose Christmas gifts for all family members, even little Cohen, and wrote heartfelt cards to mark special celebrations.
Even though Samantha Cohen occasionally shared lighter moments with the late Queen Elizabeth, she described their relationship as one of deep respect. Sadly, the Queen passed away in September 2022, and her son, King Charles, now sits on the throne.
