As a die-hard devotee, I’ve been eagerly awaiting any updates about the legendary sitcom, Malcolm in the Middle. To my delight, it recently came to light that the revival wasn’t proposed as another season but rather as a feature film! This fascinating tidbit was shared by none other than Frankie Muniz, the brilliant actor who brought our beloved Malcolm to life on screen, during his intriguing interview with ScreenRant.
Originally proposed as a two-hour film for broadcast, the plan for the revival ultimately transformed into four 30-minute episodes on Disney+. However, these segments tell one continuous storyline. Each character will be featured, giving viewers an update on their lives since we last saw them. The series concludes in a satisfying manner, leaving open possibilities for future developments.
Many viewers may find it surprising to know that Muniz doesn’t have a strong affection for his character on the show. In an interview with People magazine, he shared this personal detail as they talked about the upcoming reboot, which coincides with the series’ 25th anniversary this year.
Eight years after the show ended in 2006, Muniz revealed that it was during a marathon viewing session with his wife, Paige, when he suddenly realized something important.
At last moments, Muniz’s wife turned to him and remarked, “You weren’t pretending; you truly are Malcolm.
Additionally, he added, “And I found myself saying, ‘I’m not sure how to react because Malcolm was a poorly written character.’ He was hands down the most disliked personality on the series.
Despite having his personal viewpoint regarding the character, Muniz clearly showed excitement about the show’s comeback and couldn’t wait to work alongside his co-stars again on set.
In December 2024, it’s said that Disney+ revealed plans for a return of Malcolm in the Middle with a fresh four-episode series, for those who may not be aware.
