Was Liam Payne Seen as the Leader Of One Direction In The Early Days? Revisit The Claims Amid His Tragic Passing

As a seasoned observer of the ever-evolving music landscape, I find myself reflecting upon the poignant and unexpected demise of Liam Payne. The news of his untimely passing has cast a somber veil over the industry, leaving us all to ponder the fragility of life and the indelible impact one can have in such a short span.

On Wednesday, October 16, it is reported that Liam Payne, aged 31, passed away following a fall from his hotel room’s balcony on the third floor. The entertainment world is deeply saddened by this tragic news as they pay tribute to the talented artist. Online, fans and admirers have been sharing old videos of Payne, including one where he expressed that One Direction was created around him. In honor of the 12th anniversary of One Direction, clips from Liam’s audition for The X-Factor UK with Simon Cowell were also shared.

During an interview on Logan Paul’s podcast, Payne shared insights about his conversation with Cowell. He hinted that perhaps his involvement played a significant role in the creation of the renowned boy band.

In conversation with the podcast host, the artist behind the song “For You” explained, “It seems a significant factor in forming One Direction was a commitment from Simon: ‘I will ensure this succeeds for you within the next two years.’

He went on to reveal, “So he started with my face and then worked around the rest… I was the honorary member of One Direction. He told me that story himself at his house.”

Shortly following the musician’s remarks on Logan Paul’s show, Liam Payne faced contradiction online from both band fans and industry celebrities. On TikTok, Lizzo commented on Payne’s video saying, “Someone must have misled that young man because he wasn’t the lead singer.

In the video posted on The X Factor’s page, we see the judges determining which contestants would work well as a band together. Simon Cowell and Nicole Scherzinger were among those judging, and they evaluated Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, and Zayn Malik. Among these contenders, Liam Payne’s performance was particularly impressive, leading the judges to consider him for a leadership position within the band.

Scherzinger is heard saying to Cowell, “If he’s the standout, then he could be the leader.”

In 2016, each member of One Direction embarked on individual careers after the group disbanded, while Zayn Malik had already departed from the band a year prior in 2015.

Liam Payne is survived by his parents, sisters, and his 7-year-old son, Bear.
