As an ardent fan and admirer of Edie Falco, I find myself utterly captivated by her recent revelation about playing Hillary Clinton in FX’s Impeachment: American Crime Story. Her life experiences have always been fascinating, but this tale takes the cake! Can you imagine getting a seemingly ominous email from none other than the former First Lady herself while you’re in the thick of portraying her on screen? I can only imagine my heart racing just thinking about it!
Edie Falco portrayed Hillary Clinton in the hit FX series titled “Impeachment: American Crime Story.” In an interview with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, she disclosed that following her performance as Clinton, she received an email from Clinton’s team, which she perceived as somewhat worrisome. The production of the show commenced in 2021 and ran for a total of 10 episodes on the network.
When conversing with Bravo star Falco, she reminisced about feeling frightened concerning her portrayal on the show. She explained, “I received a mass email while filming it from Hillary saying, ‘Hey Edie, it’s Hillary. Here’s some information, blah blah blah.’ I thought she had exposed me, realized I was playing her, that she was upset, or maybe I was mistaken.” She also admitted, “It turned out to be a fundraising effort. My heart raced with anxiety.
The TV show titled “The American Story” was adapted from Jeffery Toobin’s book, originally named “The Actual Account of the Sex Scandal That Almost Dethroned a President.” Besides Falco, this series also featured Beanie Feldstein, Sarah Paulson, and Clive Owen in its cast.
Despite the Clintons remaining silent about the TV show’s narrative, Dana Walden, Disney’s entertainment chief, issued a statement asserting that the series was meticulously designed, taking into account its potentially contentious elements.
Walden conveyed to The Hollywood Reporter, “Both Bill and Hillary have publicly discussed and written books about their past experiences, allowing them to express their feelings thoughtfully and extensively. I also believe it’s just for the women connected to the scandal to share their truth, starting with Monica.
Speaking about “The American Crime Story,” it’s a television series structured as an anthology, meaning each season tells a different story. One such tale focused on a political figure.
Falco, discussing her portrayal of Clinton, stated, “I aimed to ensure she was given due respect… Although I may not have always succeeded, I felt it was important to guide her representation, as she’s a national gem and an extraordinary figure on the global stage.
The episodes of the anthology are available to stream on the digital space.
