In her new memoir, Tina Knowles openly discusses how the rumors about Beyoncé’s pregnancy with Blue Ivy caused profound emotional distress. She finally speaks out about one of the most difficult periods in her life, revealing the worldwide speculation that accused Beyoncé and her husband, Jay-Z, of fabricating the pregnancy.
Online speculation grew following the emergence of a video suggesting Beyoncé’s pregnancy belly seemed to fold during a TV interview, sparking gossip that she might have employed a surrogate. Despite the fact that Beyoncé delivered Blue Ivy on January 7, 2012, this unfounded rumor continued to circulate for several years.
During her interviews about her latest book, Matriarch, Knowles expressed to People magazine, “My dear family means the world to me, and newborns are such a sanctum. To listen to people make appalling comments and question the authenticity of my entire family because we’d all have to be part of this conspiracy, hiding something so deeply personal and sacred, was truly heart-rending.
At that moment, Beyoncé asked her mother to avoid commenting on the gossips, as she felt any response would merely escalate the speculation. Knowles stated that she heeded her daughter’s counsel but found it challenging to bear the emotional strain of keeping quiet. The rumors persisted much longer than expected, making the ordeal particularly agonizing.
She shared that it was particularly difficult for her because she felt silenced,” she said, further noting that “[the rumors] lingered for a considerable period.” She went on to express that the cruelty of people spreading such rumors was one of her most agonizing experiences. Knowles also touched upon the darker aspects of being famous, stating that celebrities are frequently forced to bear criticism and untruths without retaliation, which can be dehumanizing and profoundly painful.
With growing comfort, Knowles admitted that penning her autobiography initially served as a means to reminisce about the joyous episodes in her life. However, she found herself driven to recount the challenging times too, reasoning that an authentic narrative should encompass not only triumphs but also hardships.
Tina Knowles’ Matriarch, a candid new memoir, is out now wherever books are sold.
