Warner Bros Revives Harry Potter Magic With Immersive Re-Release Ahead of HBO’s Big-Budget Remake

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the first Harry Potter film, Warner Bros. is bringing ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’ back to cinemas in a special, immersive experience. This comes ahead of the new Harry Potter series planned for HBO. The studio describes it as a ‘shared reality’ version of the 2001 movie.

As a huge fan, I’m so excited about this new release! It’s being created with Cosm, and it’s fantastic to see them working together again. They did such a great job with previous releases like The Matrix and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, using a similar style, and I can’t wait to see what they come up with this time!

A remastered version of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is coming in early 2026, and tickets should be available around the same time. According to Variety, the experience uses Cosm’s massive 87-foot LED screens and cutting-edge film technology to completely immerse viewers in the story’s world.

Cosm has locations in Los Angeles and Dallas, with plans to expand to Detroit and Atlanta next year. They’ve partnered with Little Cinema and MakeMake Entertainment to create a new and improved movie experience.

Harry Potter’s 25th anniversary re-release set for a global rollout

To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Warner Bros. is bringing the first Harry Potter film back to theaters worldwide. Directed by Chris Columbus, the movie originally introduced viewers to Harry, Ron, and Hermione, and set the magical and lighthearted tone that would define the beginning of the Harry Potter series.

Chris Columbus directed the initial two movies in the series, but other directors took over afterward. Eventually, David Yates became the main director, and he’s directed all of the Wizarding World films starting with ‘Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix’.

Actor Johnny Columbus recently spoke about the ongoing debate surrounding author J.K. Rowling, describing her recent remarks as “disappointing.” Rowling has also publicly disagreed with Emma Watson, the original actress who played Hermione. Even with these disagreements, the Harry Potter series remains incredibly popular worldwide, making now a great time to create a new live theatrical show for fans.

HBO is already filming a new Harry Potter TV series that will completely remake the books. Each season will cover one book, giving the story more depth than the movies. A new cast will play Harry, Ron, and Hermione, and the show is expected to debut in 2027. With Warner Bros. and Cosm looking for ways to refresh beloved films, this new Harry Potter series hopes to appeal to both dedicated fans and new viewers.
