Warner Bros. Reshapes Its Future: Doubles Down on 4 Major Franchises

Warner Bros. Games is taking a daring step by redirecting their primary focus. They’ve announced a significant revamp, with game development now centered around four powerhouse franchises: Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Mortal Kombat, and the DC Universe. The goal is to simplify operations and maximize profits using these globally renowned brands.

Based on reports from within the industry, Warner Bros. Games has reorganized its management to align with this new strategic focus. Yves Lachance, who was previously in charge of Warner Bros. Games Montréal, now holds the position of Senior Vice President of Development, managing projects related to Harry Potter and Game of Thrones. Shaun Himmerick, formerly from NetherRealm Studios, has been appointed to a similar Senior Vice President role, supervising work on Mortal Kombat and DC Universe games.

In a New York-based studio, Steven Flenory has been appointed as the senior vice president for central technology and services. His responsibilities include overseeing game technology, publishing tools, customer support, and quality assurance. This trio of departments now report directly to J.B. Perrette, who is now CEO of global streaming and games at Warner Bros. Discovery, giving him control of the entire gaming division, including publishing operations.

Kill the Justice League, an estimated $200 million write-off for the company. Additional titles such as MultiVersus and Quidditch Champions also fell short of expectations, adding approximately $100 million in losses to our total.

This year, Warner Bros. decided to halt production on their Wonder Woman game and shut down Monolith Productions, the team behind Shadow of Mordor. The strategic shift in the gaming division mirrors larger restructuring efforts at Warner Bros. Discovery. On June 9, it was revealed that the company plans to divide into two separate entities by mid-2026: one, WBD Streaming & Studios, headed by CEO David Zaslav, and the other, WBD Global Networks, overseen by CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels.
