Warner Bros. Praises Early Superman Cut: DC’s Bright Future with Gunn

The acclaimed director James Gunn’s version of Superman has received another strong endorsement from the upper echelons, as it was disclosed by Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group co-heads Pam Abdy and Mike De Luca on the Smartless podcast that they have viewed a preliminary edition of the movie, and they are genuinely impressed with it.

Abdy and De Luca Praise Gunn’s Vision

As a passionate cinephile, I’ve got to say, James Gunn has truly knocked it out of the park when it comes to Superman. It’s simply epic, and I can’t help but give it a well-deserved five stars. In my opinion, DC is in incredibly capable hands with Gunn.

In a previous phase, I pursued James as a producer when he was involved in ‘Slither’ and his independent films. He’s quite exceptional, and I believe that DC has made an excellent choice with Gunn and Peter Safran. “De Luca expressed this sentiment. He has a firm grasp on the task at hand, as evidenced by an early cut of ‘Superman’. Now, let me not be coy, there’s a lot of publicity about to unfold leading up to its release, but it truly embodies the essence of the assignment.

De Luca went on to say, “He’s genuinely well-intentioned, he hits the mark, and we’re thrilled about their fresh take on DC.

Abdy added, “Yeah, James is great.”

De Luca Clarifies: Gunn and Safran Report Directly to Zaslav, Not Us

Initially, it was assumed that Abdy and De Luca were leading the DC Universe (DCU) by the podcast’s hosts. However, when asked, they made it clear that Gunn and Safran are actually reporting directly to David Zaslav, who is the CEO of Warner Bros. Discover.

We specifically clarify that DC reports directly to David Zaslav; we don’t manage it, but we were strong advocates for Peter and James taking on the role. When asked for advice, we suggested they didn’t need another corporate executive, but a storyteller instead. We were particularly impressed by Pixar’s decision to bring Pete Docter, an accomplished filmmaker from outside the company, to lead their movie content.

James Gunn Superman gets released on July 11th.

DeLuca also hinted that Gunn and Safran are developing new Teen Titan projects set in the DCU.
