Wargaming has made an announcement that they will be turning off the servers for Steel Hunters in October 2025, which means the game will no longer be accessible online permanently.
As a passionate fan, I’ve been eagerly following the launch of the mechanized extraction shooter, but unfortunately, it didn’t quite live up to expectations. Released into Early Access back in 2025, it struggled to maintain a peak concurrent player count above 4,500, which quickly plummeted to a daily CCU peak of around 100 players. The Steam reviews have remained “Mixed,” suggesting that the developer may have lost hope in trying to reverse its course.
Today, we regretfully announce tough news: we’re retiring Steel Hunters. Your enthusiasm and backing have been incredible, but we’ve reached a point where further development is no longer feasible. We understand this isn’t the update you were hoping for, and we feel your sadness just as deeply.
For the next 90 days, from now until October 8, 2025, Steel Hunters will continue to be accessible. During this time, Wargaming aims to introduce a custom games feature that lets players arrange final matches with their friends, and they plan to host a farewell tournament for the community as well.
In addition to the studio, they’re making every playable Hunter character accessible across all game modes, even those mech units that haven’t debuted yet.
For approximately three years, the creation of Steel Hunters has been underway, with the aim of reducing the studio’s reliance on its prominent intellectual properties, World of Tanks and World of Warships, by cultivating a new, robust live-service game from a distinct genre that would stand as another strong title.
