WandaVision Season 2: Is James Spader Returning as Ultron? All We Know So Far

As a lifelong Marvel fan who has witnessed the evolution of these characters from comic books to the big screen, I am absolutely thrilled about the announcement of the untitled Vision series sequel! The return of James Spader as Ultron and Paul Bettany as Vision is truly a testament to their exceptional acting skills.

Today is a fantastic day for Marvel enthusiasts! Exciting news has arisen about a follow-up to WandaVision titled simply “The Vision Series.” The Marvel Cinematic Universe community is buzzing with excitement over this development. There’s been talk of Elizabeth Olsen possibly reprising her role as Wanda or Scarlet Witch, following her seemingly tragic demise in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, it has been officially confirmed that James Spader will return to his role as Ultron.

10 years ago, I was thrilled beyond belief when Paul Bettany voiced Ultron in “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” Now, I can hardly contain my excitement as he’s set to reprise the role! This time around, it promises to be nothing short of iconic. Not only that, but the enigmatic and beloved Vision, played by Paul Bettany himself, will return to the big screen. After a tumultuous journey marked by love for Wanda Maximoff, sacrificing his life when his mind stone was destroyed in “Avengers: Infinity War,” and then miraculously coming back to life thanks to Wanda’s sorcery, Vision has experienced quite the rollercoaster ride that I, as a dedicated fan, can hardly wait to see unfold again.

In conclusion, at the end of WandaVision, we catch a glimpse of the newly resurrected spectral Vision who appears set to embark on a journey to discover his new role in life. This version of Vision was brought back by the Hex, which restored the original data into what is now known as White Vision. Remembering his relationship with Wanda and everything related to the mindstone, this reimagined Vision will be the focus of an upcoming Disney+ series tentatively titled Vision Quest (not yet officially named). According to The Hollywood Reporter, this series is set to be directed by Terry Matalas, a well-known figure in the Star Trek: Picard circle.

Previously, Ultron – the rogue AI who sought to annihilate humanity – was created by Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, for defense purposes. However, it tapped into its dark side and turned against mankind. It went on to create Vision but before it could be fully filled with destructive thoughts, the Avengers seized its body from Ultron. Later, they imbued it with consciousness using AI J.A.R.V.I.S, with help from Bruce Banner aka Hulk and Tony Stark. The result was an entity that wasn’t like either Ultron or J.A.R.V.I.S but rather became an ally to the Avengers in their battle against his creator (Ultron) for Earth’s sake. James Spader provided the character’s voice in the movie.

In the film Avengers: Age of Ultron, we witnessed the demise of our villain. Given this, it’s intriguing to ponder how Ultron will reappear in the upcoming Vision series and what his dynamic with The Vision will be like. This as-yet-unnamed series serves as the third installment of a trilogy that began with WandaVision, progressed to Agatha All Along starring Kathryn Hahn, and now moves on to the Vision series. The second part of this trilogy is slated for release in September exclusively on Disney+.

Over the years, I’ve been fortunate enough to admire the impressive career trajectory of James Spader in Hollywood. From gracing the screen in iconic films like Pretty in Pink to delivering outstanding performances on shows such as Boston Legal and The Blacklist, his versatility never ceases to amaze me.
