Actor Walker Scobell, starring as Percy in “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” hints that the second season, set to premiere on Disney+ later this year, will offer a more definitive portrayal of its narrative. The upcoming installment is based on “Sea of Monsters,” the second book in Rick Riordan’s popular series. However, the experience might seem slightly altered, not only due to the new storyline but also because of the overall atmosphere.
12-year-old Scobell, who initially got the role, is now 16 years old. He’s grown taller, his voice has deepened, and he acknowledges that maintaining the authenticity of Percy’s youthful character as he himself matures has been quite a test.
He expressed that it feels strange to continue portraying characters similar to those we played as twelve-year-olds, given how much older we are now, at the SCAD TVfest 2025 in Atlanta, where he received the Rising Star Award.
Regardless of these modifications, the season swiftly resumes its momentum. Scobell hints at ‘more action than the previous season’ and asserts that the tempo never drops. In contrast to earlier episodes where scenes frequently halted for extended discussions, this time, characters are consistently active, mirroring the intense nature of Sea of Monsters.
Besides conflicts from battles, there’s a persistent tension between Percy and Annabeth, portrayed by Leah Sava Jeffries. According to Scobell, they have an initial disagreement that lingers, creating friction. Their time apart has impacted their relationship, making it difficult for them to regain their former connection quickly.
This season introduces Daniel Diemer in the role of Tysson, Percy’s half-brother and a cyclops. Scobell is thrilled with the casting choice, expressing his excitement by saying, “Wow, [Daniel] is just perfect!” He recounted that during their first audition, Diemer wore a trident necklace he had owned for years. Moreover, Scobell mentioned that Diemer was a big fan of ‘Percy Jackson’ when he was younger, making it hard to imagine anyone else playing the role of Tyson.
Recently finished filming in Vancouver, and Scobell teased about some of the most exhilarating scenes ever. This time, the team utilized more authentic locations, amplifying the adventure’s scale. He additionally disclosed that being part of the production crew has sparked his curiosity about directing someday.
As for his favorite book in the series? No hesitation. The Last Olympian.
