43-year-old Atlanta rapper DJ Unk, famed for the 2006 song “Walk It Out,” has tragically passed away. The reason behind his death remains undisclosed. His spouse, Sherkita Long-Platt, has shared her sentiments on social media about this loss and kindly asks for privacy during this challenging period.

Anthony Leonard Platt, more commonly known as DJ Unk, joined Big Oomp Records back in 2000. His first studio album, Beat’n Down Yo Block!, was launched in the year 2006. This record contained the hit single Walk It Out, which significantly impacted the Southern hip-hop scene during the mid-2000s and earned a platinum certification.

Yet another popular track of his, titled “2 Step,” also gained significant traction, reinforcing his status within the Atlanta hip-hop community. The popularity of these two songs elevated DJ Unk to a notable position in the rap genre.

Unk’s spouse posted on Facebook, “Kindly show consideration for me and our family. Tragically, I’ve lost my partner, and our children have lost their dad. Our lives will undergo a profound change. I will always cherish you, ANTHONY.

As a lifestyle expert, let me share an inspiring tale: Though I’ve endured health setbacks like a heart attack back in 2009 – a wake-up call largely due to my relentless touring schedule, poor diet choices, excessive alcohol consumption, and smoking habits – I never stopped making music. In an interview with XXL Magazine in 2010, I candidly admitted that my constant jet-setting, exposure to diverse weather conditions, and the stress that came with it all took a heavy toll on me. It was a reminder of the importance of self-care and balance.

In the year 2017, Unk unveiled an album called “Fresh Off Dem Papers.” Not too long ago, he showcased his performance of “Walk It Out” at the BET Awards held in 2023.

On social media, Big Oomp Records paid homage to the late rapper, expressing, “DJ Unk wasn’t simply an iconic DJ, emcee, and music producer, but a pivotal pillar of our label. The impact he made worldwide will be revered eternally.

Korey Roberson, founder of Big Oomp Records, labeled Unk as a “timeless Atlanta icon” whose impact on the music industry would be indelible. Roberson added his final thoughts: “Farewell, Unk. You’ll always be remembered.” In essence, he said, “Keep walking your path.

At this time, DJ Unk’s cause of death has not been revealed to the public.
