My most esteemed companions, it appears that Mr. Vitalik Buterin—renowned co-founder of Ethereum—has graciously reminded all gentlefolk to place their faith solely in contracts that have been diligently scrutinized by trusted wallet teams. One can imagine his genteel concern is not unwarranted, particularly amidst these whispered perils surrounding our newfangled Pectra upgrade. 🕵️♀️
In a most recent communication upon that curious Warpcast platform, our dear Mr. Buterin responded to the apprehensions circulating within the Ethereum (ETH) society over the protocol’s latest flourish, EIP-7702. Indeed, an observer brought forth a certain statement from X user @nftchance, who dauntlessly labeled EIP-7702 “non-viable,” proving there is no shortage of candor in these modern times. 😏
The user, in a manner reminiscent of the highest drama, declared that while their wallet diligently blocks dubious web addresses, it somehow lacks the social grace to refuse suspicious delegations. As such, unsuspecting souls risk exposure to artful cyber villains—phishing rogues and slippery hackers among them—poised to pounce upon any inattentive victim with dreadful enthusiasm. 🦹♂️
“Meanwhile,” proclaimed the user on X, “they shall permit the wildest, most arbitrary delegations, which may reduce one’s portfolio to naught with but a single signature.” Heaven forbid! It is enough to make even the genteel among us clutch at our pearls.
And yet, upon witnessing such dramatic lamentations, Mr. Buterin offered his sagacious counsel to mitigate the woes of EIP-7702. With distinguished composure, he recommended delegating only those contracts that have been meticulously reviewed and deemed proper by the wallet team and the broader Ethereum community, thus thwarting any nefarious designs. 🤔
“The proper usage of [EIP] 7702,” said our ever-prudent Mr. Buterin, “is to entrust precisely one contract of impeccable credentials and allow that contract to undertake the necessary tasks in a safe, masterly fashion.”
EIP-7702, in its eagerness to dazzle, presents a fresh type of transaction feature, enabling an Externally Owned Account—or EOA, as the learned call it—to masquerade as a smart contract account for but a single transaction. This theatrical transformation allows for elaborate feats worthy of society gossip: gas sponsorships, transaction batches, and custom logic execution, all without the drudgery of converting EOAs forevermore.
Once the fancy concludes, the EOA reverts to its original state, thereby allowing splendid complexity without irrevocably altering one’s account structure. 👀
Of course, nothing in high society is free from the risk of scandal. Many are quick to point out that this captivating upgrade introduces new security hazards. Artful miscreants may produce contracts cunningly disguised as harmless yet harboring secret snares. The unwary might be sweet-talked into delegating control to such nefarious creations, leading to heartbreak and possibly empty pockets. 😱
In sum, the gentle public has grown heartily concerned about falling prey to phishing lures under this novel arrangement, should the system be so hoodwinked. We cannot help but recall that EIP-7702 belongs to the broader Pectra upgrade, originally deemed praiseworthy enough to reach the Ethereum mainnet on May 7. However, after some deliberation in the Ethereum Execution Layer Core Developers Meeting (which sounds thoroughly grand, does it not?), the Pectra client upgrade is scheduled to debut earlier, on April 21, thus incorporating EIP-7702 into JSON-RPC for delegated state in all its glory.
Mr. Vitalik Buterin, coauthoring alongside the revered Ansgar Dietrich, Matt Garnett, and Sam Wilson, crafted EIP-7702 to render alliances between EOAs and smart contracts more harmonious. Whether it be a triumph fit to be immortalized in song or a cautionary tale told by candlelight, we shall soon discover. 🤷♀️
