Viola Davis, Cynthia Erivo, Idris Elba, Amandla Stenberg and More Set To Star in Tomi Adeyemi’s Epic Fantasy Children of Blood and Bone Adaptation

Paramount Pictures has announced its upcoming film adaptation of the widely popular book series “Children of Blood and Bone” by Gina Prince-Bythewood, with details on the main cast and release date now available. This epic fantasy movie is derived from the bestselling novel trilogy penned by Tomi Adeyemi, which first appeared on bookshelves in 2018.

The movie adaptation of Children of Blood and Bone is set to premiere on the big screen on January 15, 2027. Author Tomi Adeyemi shared her enthusiasm for the cast on Instagram, revealing their exceptional lineup to her fans through a reel post.

In this production, Viola Davis assumes the character of Mama Agba, Idris Elba plays Lekan, while Cynthia Erivo, known for her role in Wicked, takes on Admiral Kaea. Joining the cast is Thuso Mbedu from The Woman King as Zélie, alongside Amandla Stenberg of The Hate U Give who portrays Princess Amari, Damson Idris as Prince Inan, and Tosin Cole stars as Tzain.

Lashana Lynch is taking on the part of Zélie’s mother, Jumoke Adebola, while Chiwetel Ejiofor is set to portray King Saran. Regina King has been confirmed for the role of Queen Nehanda by Adeyemi on her social media platform.

It’s said that filming will begin in South Africa, but casting calls are ongoing for additional locations in Nigeria. Adeyemi hinted at upcoming announcements regarding Nigerian castings and audition results on her post!

In a fantastical African kingdom named Orïsha, the narrative follows Zélie and her brother Tzain as they struggle against an oppressive ruler who seized all magical powers from their people. This enchanting tale unfolds into a trilogy, exploring themes of suppression, fortitude, and reclaiming one’s cultural legacy.
