You might remember that ‘Straight to Hell,’ the final episode of the first season of ‘Daredevil: Born Again,’ aired on Disney+ on April 15, 2025. With that, the series has concluded for now. But don’t worry, a second season is already in the works, so we’ll have more to anticipate in the future.
Revisiting the climactic ending of the recent season, I can’t help but highlight some crucial scenes, particularly those involving the enigmatic character known as Kingpin. Proceed with caution, dear reader, for the following discussion may reveal key plot points that could spoil your viewing experience if you haven’t watched it yet.
If you’re curious about what Vincent D’Onofrio, the man behind Kingpin, had to say about that intense final scene, stick around and find out!
Before we continue, just take a look at this scene:

Straight from the last episode, the scene showing Kingpin tearing off Gallo’s face and head stands out as the most gruesome moment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far. While the original Daredevil series didn’t flinch from violence, this particular act is a significant leap and an unexpected level of intensity for the MCU.
Recently, during a chat with the media, I, as a die-hard film enthusiast, learned about an intriguing discussion between Vincent D’Onofrio and directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead regarding a particular scene in their work. It was fascinating to discover that D’Onofrio was quite enamored with this scene, going so far as to say he was “obsessed” (though he was partially joking about that). Benson added that on set, D’Onofrio effectively took the reins and led the team in executing this scene.
D’Onofrio expressed his discomfort with common movie tropes involving skull crushing, instead opting for a more realistic depiction. He felt it was crucial to mirror the unflinching, brutal nature of the decapitation as shown in the original series, and he was prepared to get messy to achieve this.
Regarding the way the scene was created, Benson stated that it involved a rather intricate procedure. “Aaron and I have been familiar with casting molds and have even undergone this process ourselves,” he clarified. “However, we weren’t well-versed in the method they employed here, which was 3D scanning. This was one of the reasons why we were astounded by how lifelike it appeared straight from the camera.
