Vincent D’Onofrio Confirms Kingpin Won’t Be in BRAND NEW DAY

While Wilson Fisk, known as Kingpin, is famous as Daredevil’s main enemy, he originally debuted as a villain for Spider-Man in the Marvel comics. Vincent D’Onofrio’s critically acclaimed portrayal of Kingpin in the Daredevil series and the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again has led many to hope for a showdown between Kingpin and Spider-Man. However, D’Onofrio recently confirmed in an interview on the Bingeworthy podcast (reported by Deadline) that he won’t be appearing in the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie. He addressed the possibility of joining the film when asked about it.

I’m going to hold off on making any decisions until the movie studio secures the rights to my character and actually includes me in a film. Then I’ll see what happens and decide what to do.

It’s unclear exactly who has the rights to use Kingpin in live-action films. While Spider-Man animated movies, like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, can use the character, it seems Marvel controls his appearances in live-action due to the Daredevil series. However, since Marvel Studios is co-producing Spider-Man: Brand New Day with Sony, it’s puzzling why Kingpin hasn’t been included. It seems Vincent D’Onofrio, who famously played Kingpin, has information about the situation that isn’t public.

It seems the problem isn’t necessarily about who owns the rights to the characters, but rather that the upcoming Brand New Day movie is already too packed with heroes and villains – including the Punisher, Hulk, Sadie Sink’s character, and Scorpion. This makes it difficult to find a natural place for Kingpin. Although Kingpin recently mentioned Spider-Man, sparking fan interest in a showdown between the two, it looks like we’ll have to be patient before that happens.
