During the production of the ‘Fast & Furious’ films, Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson experienced a very public disagreement. The friction began in 2016 when they clashed on set, with Johnson publicly criticizing some of his fellow actors, using terms like “chicken shit” and “candy ass.” It was later revealed that these comments were aimed at Diesel himself.
The feud continued for years, with both actors speaking about their differences in interviews.
At the 2025 Golden Globes, Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson had a chance encounter when Diesel took the stage to present an award for the movie “Wicked“. During his speech, he paused to say, “Hey, Dwayne,” addressing Johnson who was seated in the audience. The camera caught Johnson giving an awkward smile from the crowd, while the audience chuckled due to their well-known history of conflict.
The ongoing, well-known conflict between them, particularly among celebrities, stretched out over time and seemed to conclude around the year 2023. Interestingly, this was when Johnson took fans by surprise by making an appearance as Luke Hobbs in a mid-credits scene for Fast X.
In 2021, Diesel extended an invitation for Johnson to collaborate on “Fast X,” however, Johnson expressed his unwillingness to rejoin. It was later revealed that this was a bluff, and the duo will once again team up in the upcoming eleventh installment of the “Fast” series.
Back in April of 2023, it was revealed that Louis Leterrier would be taking on the director’s role for both ‘Fast X’ and its spin-off ‘Hobbs & Reyes.’ Screenwriters Christina Hodson and Oren Uziel were also confirmed to be involved in the project. Initially planned for a 2025 release, filming has been postponed as a result of the writers’ and actors’ strikes that occurred in 2023.
The last movie in the series was originally scheduled for release in 2026, but has been delayed, and could possibly introduce a new villain and a plot reminiscent of the first film.
