As someone who has closely followed the lives of the royal family for decades, it’s always a captivating moment when we see Prince William and Prince Harry united, especially in such a solemn occasion as the memorial for their late uncle. The fact that Reverend Dan Tansey was unaware of their presence until the service’s end adds an intriguing twist to this narrative.
The reverend who conducted the memorial service for Lord Robert Fellowes noted with delight that both Princes, Harry and William, were present at St. Mary’s Church in Norfolk on August 29th. Reverend Dan Tansey told The Sun it was quite unexpected yet heartening to see Prince Harry, as he hadn’t been spotted in the area before, whereas Prince William’s presence wasn’t entirely surprising since he had previously been seen in the village.
Tansey didn’t catch on that Princes Harry and William, aged 39 and 42 respectively, were at the service until it concluded. It wasn’t until he greeted the congregation later that he spotted them, with Prince William extending his hand first, followed by Prince Harry. Both brothers expressed gratitude for the service, and Tansey reciprocated for their attendance.
Following the tranquil gathering after the memorial service, Reverend Tansey mentioned that he didn’t observe Prince Harry and Prince William conversing with one another, but he noted that numerous family members and acquaintances were engaged in conversations. He further remarked that it would have been particularly meaningful for Lord Robert to have both princes present, as they held a special place in his heart along with their aunt. Approximately 300 individuals attended the service on August 29th, though it’s uncertain if the princes were among those who attended an earlier private funeral.
Lord Fellowes, who recently passed away at the age of 82, held the position as Queen Elizabeth’s private secretary from 1977 to 1999 and was also Princess Diana’s brother-in-law. Initially, it was speculated that Prince Harry wouldn’t attend due to safety concerns; however, he did make a trip to the U.K. for the memorial service on August 29th. During this occasion, both Prince Harry and his brother, Prince William, were present. The brothers had last appeared together at King Charles’ coronation in May 2023, but they didn’t exchange any words there. Prince Harry departed the coronation early to celebrate his son Archie’s 4th birthday back in California.
Ever since their relocation to California, Prince Harry and Prince William have had limited encounters, such as the unveiling of a statue in 2021 and Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in 2022. The divide between them started back in 2016 due to Harry’s romance with Meghan, as depicted in his memoir, “Spare.” Despite recent efforts by Harry to mend fences, these have gone unanswered; however, their rift is not considered beyond repair.
Prince Harry’s familial ties have become tense. Although a constructive encounter with King Charles took place in February, communication has since worsened, as Harry’s calls and letters have been left unacknowledged. He is deeply worried about the wellbeing of his kin, particularly following the withdrawal of U.K. police protection, and has persistently tried to seek assistance from his father, feeling both frustrated and resolute in safeguarding his family.
