Veteran Hollywood Star John Aprea Passes Away Of Natural Causes; Actor Was 83

As a dedicated follower of John Aprea‘s illustrious career, I find myself deeply saddened by his passing at the age of 83. His journey from Englewood to Hollywood is a testament to the power of passion and perseverance in the face of adversity.

83-year-old John Aprea, well-known for his performances in films like The Godfather II and Full House, passed away peacefully on August 15th. His death was confirmed by his manager, who stated that he passed away from natural causes.

Born in 1941 and hailing from Englewood, Aprea embarked on his acting career during the 1960s. He honed his skills under the tutelage of renowned acting coach Joshua Shelly in New York, who had previously guided Mia Farrow and Jon Voight. Following his training with this accomplished mentor, Aprea made his debut as an actor in 1968, portraying a murderer in Steve McQueen’s iconic film Bullitt.

After making his first appearance in Hollywood, the actor subsequently landed notable roles in both television series and films. Following his part in Bullitt, he was cast in the 1970s TV show Mannix and a movie titled The Grasshopper during the same year.

Afterward, the well-known Hollywood actor made an appearance in Jonathan Demme’s film from 1974. Although early roles helped boost his self-assurance, it wasn’t until his part in the legendary movie “The Godfather Part II” that he gained widespread popularity among viewers.

In this film, it was Francis Ford Coppola who took charge as the director. The role of young Tessio was played by John, and both the viewers and critics highly appreciated his acting skills.

In the course of his career, as reported by his manager, Abe Vigoda turned out to be a significant influence for another actor, Al Pacino. Vigoda and Pacino worked together in the second version of The Godfather, with Vigoda portraying an older character based on Pacino’s role. In response to Pacino’s admiration, Vigoda once said, “I don’t know what I did. Just enjoy yourself, kid.”

As a respected film actor, I found myself venturing into television’s realm post my silver screen success. I graced the ABC series Matt Houston as a consistent cast member from 1981 to 1987. Subsequently, I signed on with Another World and spent six years bringing the character Lucas Castigliano to life.

Among the memorable roles of his acting career, one stands out: playing Jesse’s father on the popular sitcom Full House. In this show, Aprea took on the character. His career in Hollywood continued until 2023, when he returned to the role of Jack Madison on the TV series The Bay.

John Aprea is survived by his partner of 25 years and his daughters.
