As an ardent fan of the supernatural genre and a follower of Bill Skarsgard’s acting career since his chilling portrayal of Pennywise, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming release of The Crow! The trailer alone has sent shivers down my spine with its gripping narrative and the palpable chemistry between Bill and FKA Twigs as Eric and Shelly.
Approaching its release date, the supernatural action fantasy “The Crow” unfolds! In this movie, Bill Skarsgard portrays Eric, who, along with his girlfriend Shelly (played by singer-songwriter FKA Twigs), meets a brutal end. However, after death, Eric rises back to life as a powerful entity known as The Crow, and he’s on a mission to save the love of his life before time expires.
In the trailer, the characters appear to share a genuine bond. Eric, played by Skarsgard, tells Shelly, “You feel like my other half,” to which Shelly responds with a similar sentiment. The creators’ clever choice of casting makes the pair seem both cynical and perfectly suited for each other.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, director Rupert Sanders shared his thoughts on why Skarsgard and Twigs were a fitting match for their characters. He believed they were perfectly suited for their respective roles, stating that both actors delivered incredibly natural performances. Essentially, he was thrilled to have found two exceptionally talented performers for the film.
From a lifestyle perspective, I must commend the IT actor for his exceptional physicality and his uncanny ability to reveal his eerie side, all while maintaining his beautiful and compassionate persona. As for Twigs, she’s nothing short of an ethereal, mystical being.
In an interview with THR, the artist known as The Cellophane Singer shared details about the activities she and Skarsgard undertook to strengthen their connection before filming started. “We’d go for meals together, spend leisure time, even take walks,” she disclosed. “Bill is quite friendly, so our interactions were enjoyable.” She admitted.
30 years after the 1994 original film, Sanders’ interpretation of The Crow will hit the screens, inspired by James O’Barr’s comic book series. But don’t confuse it with the earlier adaptation; this new version promises a fresh perspective. As screenwriter William Josef Schneider explained to the media, “We discovered a unique angle for the story, and we hope they can both thrive independently, each with its own audience.”
The Crow will be released in theaters on August 23.
