Vertiv: Seriously?

So, everyone’s suddenly obsessed with artificial intelligence. Fine. Whatever. But nobody – nobody – seems to be thinking about the heat. The heat! These things generate heat, you know? Like a toaster oven, but on steroids. And then you need to cool it. It’s just basic physics. You’d think people in finance would understand basic physics. Apparently not.

It’s not like your little laptop fan is going to handle it. That’s a joke, honestly. A complete joke. They’re building these massive data centers, and they’re acting like the heat just…disappears? It doesn’t. It needs to be dealt with. And that, my friends, is where Vertiv comes in. Or, as I’ve started calling it, the “We Thought of the Obvious” company.

They make cooling systems. Air conditioning, liquid cooling, the whole nine yards. And suddenly, everyone’s throwing money at them. Institutional investors, BlackRock, State Street…it’s a parade. A parade of people realizing something incredibly simple. It’s like discovering fire. Except, fire was more original. And less… predictable.

Vertiv’s stock has jumped almost 200% in the last year. 199%, to be exact. 199%! It’s ridiculous. It’s almost insulting. Like, “Oh, we forgot about the heat, here’s a fortune.” I mean, good for them, I guess. But it’s just… irritating. The sheer lack of foresight. It’s enough to make you question the entire system.

What Exactly Is Vertiv?

It’s a data center infrastructure company. They don’t just do cooling, apparently. They do power, racks, monitoring… the whole shebang. But let’s be real, it’s the cooling that’s driving this. They have these fancy in-rack cooling units, evaporative systems… it’s all very technical. And frankly, I don’t care about the specifics. I just want the servers to not melt. Is that too much to ask?

So, who’s buying? BlackRock, of course. Always BlackRock. They increased their position by 2.38%. 2.38%! Like they’re rounding up. And JPMorgan Chase, with a 4.2 million share purchase. 4.2 million! It’s a number. A large number. But it doesn’t explain the fundamental absurdity of the situation. We’re celebrating a company that solves a problem everyone should have anticipated. It’s like rewarding someone for remembering to breathe.

The Numbers, Ugh

Okay, fine, let’s talk numbers. They had $10.23 billion in net sales in 2025, up 26%. And their earnings per share jumped 47%. 47%! It’s a good number. A very good number. But it’s still just…cooling. They’re making a fortune cooling things. It’s profoundly underwhelming.

Q4 2024 Q4 2025 year-over-year change (%)
Net Sales $2.3 billion $2.8 billion 19%
Diluted EPS $0.99 $1.36 37%
Operating Profit $504 million $668 million 33%
Free Cash Flow $362 million $910 million 151%

They’re projecting even more growth in 2026. 28% for net sales, 45% for operating profits. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy. Everyone’s rushing in because everyone else is rushing in. It’s like a crowded subway car. Nobody actually wants to be there, but they feel obligated to join the throng.

Their profit margin is 13%, and their debt-to-equity ratio is 0.82. Perfectly acceptable, I suppose. But it doesn’t change the fact that they’re profiting from a basic oversight. The P/E ratio is 73.24, which is high, but lower than last year. Progress, I guess. Small, incremental progress in a world obsessed with overheating servers.

The consensus EPS forecast for 2026 is $6.15. $6.15! For cooling! It’s just… exhausting. I need a nap. And a very cold room.

They’ve beaten EPS estimates every year since 2023, which is when the AI spending spree began. Of course they have. It’s a predictable outcome. Like gravity. Or traffic. Or the inevitable disappointment of a lukewarm bagel.

Between 2022 and 2023, their EPS jumped 233.9%. 233.9%! It’s almost obscene. And Wall Street thinks there’s more to come. More cooling. More profits. More…everything. Honestly, it’s enough to make you question the entire concept of investment. What are we even doing here?

So, if you want to be cool, give Vertiv a look. But don’t expect me to be impressed. I’ll be over here, quietly fanning myself and wondering why nobody thought of this sooner.
