As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the Marvel universe, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and skepticism as Venom: The Last Dance approaches. Having grown up watching the PG-13 rated Spider-Man films, I was always left craving a bit more grit and violence – something that R-rated comic book adaptations like Joker, Deadpool, and Logan have delivered in spades.
In just under two weeks, we’re set to witness the culmination of the Venom trilogy with Venom: The Last Dance. This final installment is expected to beef up the Secret Species Unit (SSU) significantly by introducing Knull, one of Marvel’s formidable and potentially lethal antagonists.
With the release date swiftly approaching, more intriguing tidbits have surfaced, especially regarding the film’s official rating. As a dedicated fan, I had high hopes that the first Venom movie would earn an R-rating. However, it ended up being rated PG-13 instead.
Movie producer Matt Tolmach has subtly suggested that the upcoming film “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” could receive an R-rating, much like other successful R-rated comic book movies such as “Joker” (2019), “Deadpool” (2016), and “Logan” (2017).
Nevertheless, he emphasized that the PG-13 rating of the initial Venom movie had been profitable at the box office, and they didn’t intend to alter the franchise’s mood simply because it suited other productions. In essence, the sequel retained its PG-13 rating.
As we draw near to the third edition, is it possible that the rating will shift this time around? Although an R-rating may not be likely, there’s been some chatter, particularly due to the movie’s rating in the UK.
In the United Kingdom, the third installment of “Venom” has been given a rating of “15,” similar to the U.S.’s “R” rating. This means that only individuals who are 15 years old or older will be allowed to watch it, with no exceptions made.
In the United States, minors (people under 17) can watch R-rated movies if they are accompanied by an adult. Conversely, in the UK, most superhero films receive a 12A rating, which means children below the age of 12 can watch them as long as they’re supervised. A rating of “18” is seldom used.
Indeed, it’s worth noting that both “Venom” and its sequel “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” carry a 15 rating in the UK. As a result, we don’t anticipate significant differences due to this factor.
From the previews, it appears that there will be a lot of exciting action sequences. With Knull involved, there’s a possibility of receiving an R-rating; however, it seems rather uncertain at this point.
