As a film enthusiast with a deep appreciation for the art of cinema, I have had the immense pleasure and privilege of attending numerous film festivals throughout my life. One that holds a special place in my heart is the Venice Film Festival. With its rich history and commitment to showcasing groundbreaking films from around the world, it never fails to leave me feeling inspired and invigorated.
The complete lineup of the 81st edition of the Venice Film Festival is out!
In my experience as a lifestyle expert, last year’s film festival was a subdued event due to the ongoing SAG AFTRA strike which kept many celebrities away. But the tide has turned this year. The upcoming film festival in 2024 is expected to be a dazzling spectacle filled with glamour and star power. Films such as Joker: Folie à Deux, Maria, and Wolfs, are among the promising contenders that will grace our screens and potentially receive recognition at this esteemed ceremony.
Venice Film Festival 2024 contenders
As a film enthusiast who has been following the industry for years, I am thrilled to share that on Tuesday, July 23rd, the highly anticipated films scheduled to debut at the upcoming event were finally announced. Among these exciting titles is Todd Phillips’ much-hyped production, “Joker: Folie à Deux,” which features the brilliant acting duo of Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga. This announcement has added even more anticipation to my already buzzing excitement for the event. I can hardly wait to witness these talented artists bring their unique vision to life on the big screen.
The Warner Bros. follow-up to the 2019 Joker, boasting 11 Oscar nominations and a staggering $1 billion global box office earnings, stands out as the most notable film among the contenders. Furthermore, the addition of pop superstar Lady Gaga to the musical thriller and her introduction into the DC universe is an exciting prospect for fans.
At the film festival this year, Luca Guadagnino returns with his latest production titled “Queer.” Based on William S. Burroughs’ novel, this film stars Daniel Craig, Lesley Manville, and Jason Schwartzman. (Last year, Guadagnino premiered “Challengers” during the strike with Zendaya in the lead role.)
Angelina Jolie could make an appearance on the Venice Film Festival red carpet to show her support for the movie “Maria,” which is a biopic about the legendary opera singer and is directed by Pablo Larrain. Additionally, the film “Beneath the Surface” by Halina Reijn, featuring Nicole Kidman, Antonio Banderas, and Jean Reno, is also set to be screened at the festival.
At this year’s festival, some highly anticipated titles set to be released outside of the competition include “Beetlejuice” directed by Tim Burton with Michael Keaton in the title role, and “The Wolfpack” helmed by Jon Watts, featuring George Clooney and Brad Pitt. The star-studded event is sure to dazzle!
