The Pope’s last words were addressed to his long-term nurse and caretaker, Massimiliano Strappetti. According to Vatican authorities, as reported by TMZ, the Pope thanked Strappetti for motivating him to greet a massive crowd in St. Peter’s Square on Easter Sunday.

“Thank you for bringing me back to the Square,” the Pope said.

Instead of showing initial reluctance, the Pope decided to take a brief ride in the Popemobile following his Easter blessing. Throughout the parade, he enthusiastically waved and interacted with the cheering crowd.

After coming home on Sunday, Francis spent the rest of the day relaxing quietly and had a peaceful evening meal. It was around 5:30 a.m. on Monday when he began showing symptoms of illness. By an hour later, he was already in a coma. Just before his death, he made a farewell gesture with his hand to Strappetti as a final goodbye.

Over the past few years, there have been concerns about the Pope’s well-being due to multiple hospital visits and ongoing respiratory issues, including a recent bout with double pneumonia. Despite these health challenges, he has remained engaged in his duties and regular public appearances.
