The unfavorable opinions about James Gunn’s Superman reboot are continuously expanding, with Variety adding their criticism in a review not directly related to the movie itself.
So far that’s two strikes against Gunn’s new Man of Steel.

What does Variety say about Superman?
In a recent review for Amazon’s “Heads of State,” entertainment magazine Variety finds similarities in its humorous style to that of Superman, and even goes as far as stating that “Heads of State” is a superior film.
It might seem tempting to dismiss ‘Heads of State’ as just another film. However, doing so would mean missing out on a movie that, like ‘Superman’, has its share of the fantastical but offers significantly more entertainment (a comparison worth noting, considering they both embrace a mythical form of heroism).
Following the severe critique of his Superman portrayal by The Daily Beast, who labeled the DCU reboot as “awful” and the potential last blow to the superhero genre’s survival, the retort is delivered.

More Trouble for Gunn’s Superman
Up until now, neither Gunn nor Warner Bros. have addressed the criticism, while online responses remain divided. A source hints that viewers might either embrace it wholeheartedly or strongly dislike it.
It’s evident that the jokes about Superman are already prevalent in the recent film reviews from Hollywood, and this occurs even prior to its release in cinemas.
