Vanna White Was ‘Scared’ About Her Chemistry With Ryan Seacrest On Wheel Of Fortune; Actress Thought They ‘Wouldn’t Click’

As an ardent fan with decades of Wheel of Fortune fervor coursing through my veins, I must confess that I initially shared Vanna White’s apprehension when Ryan Seacrest took over from the revered Pat Sajak. The thought of a new host seemed daunting, like swapping out the familiar, comforting embrace of an old sweater for a brand-new, untried one.

Vanna White, a longtime co-host on Wheel of Fortune, admitted to feeling apprehensive when Ryan Seacrest replaced Pat Sajak as the game show’s host. Initially, she was fearful that their dynamics might not work out well together.

In an interview with Luke Burbank of CBS News Sunday Morning, White expressed that although she initially had concerns, she now believes they share a strong rapport. She explained, “Ryan and I have been acquainted for about 20 years, but we’ve spent the last few months traveling together for the show. This close contact allowed us to understand each other better, leading me to think that our compatibility is solid.”

Initially unsure about how she’d gel with Ryan Sajak, given their long-standing partnership with Pat Sajak, Vanna admitted to having doubts. Yet, after seeing Ryan perform admirably in his new role, Vanna confided in Burbank that these concerns were alleviated significantly, providing her comfort despite her initial apprehensions.

On September 9th, Seacrest officially takes over his new position, having first risen to prominence as a host on American Idol. Despite filming for the popular and enduring CBS competition series commencing in mid-July, fans will have to be patient to see them both. Notably, White continues in her role as co-host following Sajak’s departure from the show, having shared this position with him since 1982 on Wheel of Fortune.

Pat Sajak took some time to consider his retirement from Wheel of Fortune. Nearly a year ago, in June 2023, Sajak announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he would be leaving the show as host following the 41st season. Fans were shocked by this announcement because Sajak had become the face of the show since he took over as host in 1981.

On June 7th, the last episode of Wheel of Fortune hosted by Sajak drew in a record-breaking audience in nearly four years, as approximately 11 million viewers tuned in to bid farewell to the presenter who had been with the show for over 4 decades.

Previously, White, who still has at least two more years on her show, expressed that she had always assumed she would retire alongside Sajak. However, after extended negotiations over contracts that started in late 2021, it’s been decided that she will continue through the 2025-2026 TV season.
