For gamers seeking suitable agents or aspiring to advance their rankings, this Valorant Tier List for Controllers might prove a useful resource.
In any Valorant team setup, each role is crucial, yet it’s challenging to form a professional squad without incorporating a Controller. Given their title, Controllers specialize in controlling the game map. Their duties encompass setting up smokes on strategic locations like chokepoints, which aids in securing areas or making opponents hesitate when advancing. Currently, Valorant offers six Controller agents, each with distinctive smoke abilities and methods to dominate the match. Some of these agents can be played casually, while others perform optimally under aggressive playstyles. Nevertheless, it’s important to note that not all Controllers are equally powerful; some simply excel compared to their counterparts.
In Valorant, Controllers are essential team members who specialize in controlling the game map by using smoke abilities strategically on chokepoints, making opponents think twice before advancing. There are six Controller agents available, each with unique strengths and playstyles, some more aggressive than others. However, not all Controllers have the same level of power; some are simply superior to others.
In this ranking system, we assess every Controller character in Valorant, assigning them ratings from S to C. This comparison showcases their relative strengths and weaknesses across various skill levels, with the rankings reflecting their effectiveness and success within the current collection of maps.
Best Valorant Controller Tier List
In Valorant, here’s a rundown of all Controller agents, arranged from least potent to most formidable: Agents in the C tier are finding it tough in the current meta or map selection, often failing to keep pace with their rivals. The B tier agents are fair and can indeed make an impact if skillfully played, but they still don’t measure up to the top choices. The A tier agents are reliable and effective selections. Lastly, the S tier includes either overpowered or incredibly powerful agents that can easily take control of the game with their dominance.
Tier | Agent |
S | Omen |
A | Astra, Viper, Clove |
B | Brimstone |
C | Harbor |
S-tier
Omen
It’s possible that Omen has misplaced some useful one-way smokes, which has slightly diminished his power. However, he remains a top-tier controller, excelling in both professional tournaments (VCT) and ranked games. Omen is considered one of the best agents due to his high carry potential and frequent selection on many maps, particularly Ascent. Although Brimstone’s smokes last longer, Omen’s rechargeable smokes are more beneficial for default setups and provide better range. He can also execute solo plays using his teleport flash combo, or aid the team in taking picks through his blind. As a versatile agent capable of functioning as both a duelist and an initiator, there’s no question he’s one of the best choices for solo queue games. With the recent adjustments to Clove’s abilities, it is anticipated that many players will opt for Omen over them.
A-tier
Astra
Astra has turned out to be a solid choice due to the enhancement that boosted her star rating to five. In terms of usefulness, she’s an agent that is tough to surpass. Her smokes endure longer, lack range limitations, and her global abilities enable her to aid the team from anywhere on the map. Combining her crowd control with the skills of Raze and Tejo can lead to effortless eliminations.
It’s challenging for many players to master Astra due to her complex mechanics, as she requires effective team collaboration and communication, a skill set that is often lacking among lower and mid-tier players. Moreover, Omen tends to be the preferred choice over Astra in most maps, making Astra less popular.
Viper
Over time, I’ve noticed that Viper has been persistently weakened by nerfs, and these changes have seemed to favor professional play over competitive. Her Toxins replenish at a slower rate, her smokes can no longer be reused, and she only possesses one molly now. Even with precise lineups, she’s not nearly as potent as she once was. The modifications to her kit have made her primarily useful on maps where she thrives, like Icebox and Breeze, or in a double-controller arrangement. However, in ranked play, this isn’t usually the case, as double duelist or double initiator setups are more prevalent.
Yet, she remains potent in the correct setting and with a team adept at strategic thinking. She skillfully erects barricades to exert pressure and sow confusion among adversaries, functioning somewhat like a guardian safeguarding a location. Viper is also equipped with one of the best abilities in the game, which can even turn the tide for decisive victories in critical situations.
Clove
Regarding cigarettes, she’s in a tricky situation. Clove’s cigarettes burn out quickly and currently have a 40-second cool-down period. Additionally, her cigarettes have limited range, which could create issues on specific maps. However, the team can greatly benefit from the fact that she can deploy smokes even after death, although within a shorter range. Moreover, since players can no longer mark the bomb when it’s hidden by smoke, having Clove on the team could be advantageous.
B-tier
Brimstone
On smaller maps like Bind and Fracture, Brimstone performs well, but he tends to struggle on larger maps due to the limited range of his smoke ability. This often makes Omen a more popular choice. However, it’s important to note that Brimstone’s kit is still effective for setting up ambushes, halting enemy advances, and executing clutch plays after planting the spike.
C-tier
Harbor
In this Valorant Controller Tier List, Harbor is currently ranked as the most underperforming character and has been for quite some time. Without significant adjustments to his abilities, it seems unlikely that this will change. Harbor’s entire skill set focuses on smokes, lacking any tools for delaying or securing kills. His smoke abilities are too sluggish to deploy effectively without exposing his position in the process. Unless a team composition can fully exploit his utility and outside of his favored maps, he proves nearly worthless. As such, players have been advocating for a comprehensive revamp of his kit or at least some boosts. However, until these changes are made, Harbor will continue to languish at the bottom of every tier list.
