Sony is developing a cinematic take on the horror game “Until Dawn“, intending to launch it this year. Unlike most games-to-films, this movie won’t rehash the game’s story or stick with its original characters. Instead, it will offer a new narrative set within the world of “Until Dawn”.

At this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025, actor Peter Stormare, famous for playing Dr. Alan J. Hill in the game, announced his reprisal of that role for the upcoming movie. He revealed that the plot will introduce a fresh narrative with new characters, while keeping only his character as a connection to the game’s universe. Consequently, the film won’t feature the original cast members like Rami Malek or Hayden Panettiere.

In the video game, the story changes based on player choices, similar to the butterfly effect in nature, making it difficult to adapt for a film because movies follow a straight line narrative. The game’s appeal lies in its multiple endings due to decisions made by players, which boosts the desire to play again.
