In contrast to previous Monster Hunter games, Monster Hunter Wilds places significant emphasis on its narrative. The story primarily circles around Nata, a youth from a tribal community dwellers outside the world call the Forbidden Lands. Owing to the region’s frequent hostile weather conditions and the presence of colossal monsters, outsiders perceive it as inhospitable. However, all that changes when Nata arrives at the hunters’ academy seeking aid, claiming his tribe is under attack.
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but share my excitement as I delve into this spoiler-filled account of Monster Hunter Wilds. In this thrilling journey, I find myself teamed up with three esteemed members of the Hunters’ Guild: Alma, our skilled handler, Gemma, the resourceful Smithy, and my custom hunter character. Collectively, we form the Avis Unit, renowned for our swift command of Seikret riding. Our shared mission is to locate Nata, a fellow hunter gone missing, and bring her back home.
Our adventure takes us across the treacherous Forbidden Lands, traversing various tribes along the way. With each step, we inch closer to Nata’s homeland, unveiling secrets of the Forbidden Lands as we go. One of the most intriguing discoveries on our quest is the origins of the monstrous creatures that call these lands their home.
What Happens To Nata In Monster Hunter Wilds?
Nata Finds His Village, Takes On A New Role
After tracking down various whispers, Nata manages to find his long-lost village eventually, following the discovery of a pair of gloves he had left behind during his travels. The villagers, who belong to the community called The Keepers, have been hiding in the remnants of Wyveria, an old civilization that birthed the fearsome creatures known as the Guardians, including Arkveld, since their own village was attacked.
The Guardians are powered by a substance known as Wyvern Milk (abbreviated as Wylk), which is more like a synthetic mineral than genuine dairy. Additionally, the Keepers developed a technological artifact called the Dragontorch, maintaining the Forbidden Lands in a state of fertility, tranquility, and equilibrium; however, it seems there’s an issue with this device.
Nata and the Avis Unit persistently explore the area, ultimately discovering Arkveld, encompassed by a mound of slain monsters. Arkveld has evolved into an invasive creature – no longer predatorial, but rampantly destructive, as Alma puts it. Overwhelmed, Nata loses hope, but Alma concludes that Arkveld needs to be eliminated to revitalize the Forbidden Lands. The hunter confronts Arkveld in a fierce struggle, in what is arguably the most challenging low-rank hunt within the game.
Initially saddened by Arkveld’s defeat at the hands of the hunter, Nata eventually accepts their verdict after considering the events that followed. In time, Nata assumes a role as a liaison, acting as a messenger and facilitator for trade between the hunters’ guild and the diverse tribes inhabiting the Forbidden Lands, exchanging information and goods between their villages and outposts.

Zoh Shia Emerges
After vanquishing Arkveld, Nata instructs the hunting group to transport him towards the Dragontorch. Suspecting that Arkveld was drawing power from this source, he aims to decipher what instigated its frenzy. Guided by age-old Keeper inscriptions, they successfully locate Wyveria’s ancient energy reservoir. Upon arrival, however, they discover a beast coiled around the Dragontorch – another Protector. They retreat to Nata’s village to report their findings, and the villagers recognize this creature as Zoh Shia. Although they presumed it was inactive, it’s evidently active now and has grown immensely powerful due to the Dragontorch’s energy influx.
The hunters and Nata’s tribe members contemplate severing Zoh Shia from the Dragontorch, aware that such action could disrupt the equilibrium of the Forbidden Lands. They disclose that the pendant Nata wears is crucial for destroying the Dragontorch; it was once his father’s duty to protect the Dragontorch, but since his father perished during the raid on their village, that responsibility now rests with him. Nevertheless, as the pendant is his sole remaining memory of his father, the hunters opt to let Nata make the final choice.
Recognizing it as his father’s wish, Nata chooses to deliver the pendant personally to Zoh Shia. The Avis Unit joins him on this mission, and they share memories of their adventure, with Nata expressing gratitude for the experiences they shared. As they approach Dragontorch, Nata grips his pendant tightly, marching courageously towards the beast. Just when it seems he’ll face Zoh Shia alone, a seasoned hunter intervenes at the critical moment, opting to battle Zoh Shia themselves, shattering the Dragontorch with their weapon.
As a gamer, I can confidently say that Zoh Shia is less formidable compared to Arkveld, yet still poses a significant challenge. This elusive boss morphs multiple times, utilizing Dragontorch energy to summon an array of diverse elements. Despite the Dragontorch being fragmented, the land thrives with its magic. Interestingly, Nata makes his way back to his tribe, and Tasheen, who acts as a father figure to him, is amazed to find his pendant still intact. In gratitude, Tasheen acknowledges the hunters for liberating the Keepers from their ancient bond.

Research In The Forbidden Lands
After the closing credits, news about the Avis Unit’s operations spreads back to their original academy. Based on the information they’ve uncovered, Fabius, head of their Guild, decides to establish a base of operations in the Forbidden Lands. He sends hunters there to carry on their research in that area. Quickly, they discover that the Frenzy Virus is spreading, resulting in more dangerous versions of the standard game monsters. Over time, this investigation leads to the High Rank feature, which enables players to tackle tougher hunts for rarer prizes.
After the fresh group of hunters establishes themselves in the area, there is an increasing blend between the Hunters’ Guild and the villages of the Forbidden Lands. Over time, they develop a diplomatic bond, facilitated by Nata, where information and resources are shared openly.
The annihilation of Dragontorch doesn’t entirely wipe out the Forbidden Lands, but it significantly impacts its ecological system. The once stable climate patterns are thrown into turmoil, resulting in unpredictable and erratic seasons. These abrupt changes can drastically alter the terrain of each region, affecting not only the physical challenges of traversing them, but also the creatures dwelling within and the resources obtainable. This aspect becomes crucial for the endgame strategy: you’ll need to coordinate your expeditions with the optimal seasons to reap the highest benefits, and adapt to the distinct conditions during hunts.
Once the tale of ‘Wilds’ concludes, there’s still much more to experience. The highlight here is the postgame, where you can engage in a sequence of High Rank hunts, confronting a broader array of challenging and lucrative monsters. Your mission is to boost your Hunter Rank and enhance your equipment as you delve deeper into ‘Monster Hunter Wilds’.
