The animated series titled “Kowloon Generic Romance” is based on Jun Mayuzuki’s ongoing manga and falls under the genres of science fiction and romance. It unfolds within a revamped version of Kowloon Walled City, where the dramatic tale of Reiko Kujirai and Hajime Kudou’s passionate relationship takes place, all set against a wistful backdrop that echoes the city’s past.
The intriguing blend of simulation-like aspects subtly seeps into their lives as memories grow hazy and the threads of time connect past and present. This captivating series, brought to life by ARVO Animation, unfolds over 13 episodes. Notable performances come from Haruka Shiraishi and Tomokazu Sugita, while Yoshiaki Iwasaki handles direction and Yoshiko Takemoto oversees the animation.
According to the official site of the anime, Episode 1 of Kowloon Generic Romance will present Reiko Kujirai as a character. She is an employee at “Wong Lai Real Estate,” located in the bustling, antiquated Kowloon Walled City. Her supervisor, Hajime Kudou, often runs late and seems carefree, but he has a profound affection for the city.
As I confess to Kudou that I’m not feeling the nostalgic allure of our usual haunts, Kudou graciously offers to guide me around instead. Our stroll concludes at an intriguing teahouse named “Goldfish Teahouse,” a favorite spot of Kudou’s. To my surprise, the waitress, Nguyen, assumes I’m Kudou’s partner, perhaps due to our familiarity with the place.
As I find myself gradually drawn towards Hajime, my feelings grow stronger and stronger. However, a photo unveils a shocking truth – Kudou had a fiancée who bore an uncanny resemblance to me. With no recollection of my past, the chilling reality of my existence becomes clear in Episode 1 of Kowloon Generic Romance, and I’m left grappling with it as Kujirai.
