In plain terms, “Avowed” doesn’t hesitate to present challenging choices and impactful consequences from the get-go. This is clear right from your initial side quest in Dawnshore, known as Dawntreader. This mission carries multiple crucial decisions that determine which ending you eventually unlock in “Avowed“. You may anticipate complex moral quandaries later, but Dawntreader establishes the tone early on, guiding your journey through the Living Lands.
Besides contributing to its storyline, Dawntreader offers two achievements that can be overlooked. The first one, Historian, demands locating a set of books concealed throughout the Eothasian Temple. Some books are readily visible, but others can slip by unnoticed, making this achievement challenging to achieve. You’ll need to search various sections of the temple for these volumes, using skills like platforming, underwater exploration, and breaking objects to discover hidden pathways.
The following details provide the locations where each book from the ‘History of the Living Lands’ series can be found within the game ‘Avowed’. Accompanying images are included as visual guides to help you achieve a full 100% completion of the game.
In this way, the sentence is made more accessible and easy to understand for a broader audience without losing its original meaning.
How to Unlock the Historian Achievement in Avowed
To earn the Historian achievement, you need to track down and collect five books from the History of the Living Lands series. These books are hidden within the Eothasian Temple, situated north of Paradis. However, accessing the temple is only possible during the course of completing Dawntreader, an exceptional side quest available in Dawnshore.
It’s worth noting for those who like to collect everything, the achievement Historian in Avowed can be missed. Once you finish Dawntreader, you won’t be able to re-enter the Eothasian Temple to gather any overlooked books. If the temple entrance is obstructed by vines, it means you’ve advanced too far. The only alternatives are either loading an earlier save or starting a fresh gameplay.
As you prepare to depart from the Eothasian Temple, don’t forget to grab Sargamis’ Last Light of Day. This exceptional, one-of-a-kind sword will empower your character, giving them a significant edge in the early stages of gameplay.
A History of the Living Lands I: Origin

In the Eothasian Temple, you’ll discover the first book hidden in a secret room close to Caedmon. After completing your chat with him during the Dawntreader questline, follow the planks upward, but veer right instead of left. Going left leads to Sargamis and his grand statue, whereas the right path has some overhanging branches. Duck beneath them and smash the planks to create an opening into a compact room. The History of the Living Lands I: Origin book is placed on top of a box in this space.
A History of the Living Lands II: Lacuna

For the second book, locate the pathway to the left of the colossal statue, then leap over to the wooden walkway hidden behind it. This trail will guide you towards a significant gap in the wall. Enter and continue along (and ascend) the passage until you find yourself in a compact room at the summit. The “The History of the Living Lands II: Lacuna” volume can be found on a modest table to your right.
A History of the Living Lands III: Glossolalia

In the thrilling world of Avowed, I’ve discovered that the elusive Historian achievement can sometimes remain unattainable for many players due to a sneaky detail: the third book is perched high above my own eye level! It’s so effortlessly overlooked, adding an extra layer of challenge to this already captivating game.
Progress deeper into the Eothasian Temple for the Dawntreader quest, following the path until you need to dive underwater to access a submerged library. Once you enter the room filled with bookshelves, take a look at the recesses on your left side for the third book. After spotting it, stand beneath it and leap to obtain the History of the Living Lands III: Glossolalia book in your collection within Avowed.
As soon as you step into the water-logged library, there are adversaries on your right. Deal with them promptly before making a move to retrieve the Historian’s book.
A History of the Living Lands IV: [Redacted]

In the last chamber, you’ll discover the fourth book is positioned beside the Splinter of Eothas. To locate it, peer to the right of the altar and spot a gap in the wall. Knock down the vases obstructing your path and proceed through. As you move forward, continue to eliminate more vases. Eventually, you’ll stumble upon the History of the Living Lands IV: [REDACTED] volume concealed within a sarcophagus.
Picking up the relic spawns several skeletons in the main chamber.
A History of the Living Lands V: Synthesis

Move towards the old elevator structure located at the back right corner, then interact with the lever to access Sargamis’ private rooms. If you choose not to eliminate him, this is where Sargamis sits to contemplate his actions as Dawntreader concludes. The fifth and final volume of History of the Living Lands: Synthesis is concealed behind a bookshelf to your left. Run your hand along the wall and inspect the floor behind it to earn the Historian achievement in Avowed.
