Announcement has been made by Marvel and Tribute Games for their latest game, dubbed as Marvel’s Cosmic Invasion. This is a throwback-style side-scroller that allows players to assume roles of various superheroes while battling Annihilus and the Annihilation Wave.

The game appears to draw inspiration, in part, from the Marvel Comics epic event, “Annihilation” (2005/6). This storyline primarily focused on cosmic Marvel characters protecting the universe against an attack originating from the Negative Zone, orchestrated by Annihilus. Notably, the Avengers and X-Men were absent in the original storyline; however, this game introduces these popular teams and also establishes a setting based on Earth for commercial reasons.

Features Nova

In the video clip below, it’s clear that Nova from the initial comic series is a playable character. The game’s retro aesthetic seems to feature a version of Nova from the ’90s. Also featured as a playable character is Phyla, who was disliked by fans when she took over Wendell Vaughn Quasar’s role. In a parallel to Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel, Phyla is another character whose writing some find problematic due to perceived political leanings.

(Note: The term “woke” carries negative connotations that may not be suitable for all audiences. It could instead be said that the character is seen as poorly written by some who perceive a certain ideological stance in her portrayal.)

15 playable characters

The information indicates that there are fifteen characters you can play, and it would be exciting if a significant number of them hail from the Marvel Cosmic universe. The details provided include “Nova, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Phyla-Vell, Captain America, Storm, Venom, and numerous other heroes, both earthly and cosmic.” To make it even more enticing, I believe adding the Silver Surfer would be a great addition.

The epic saga, “Cosmic Invasion by MARVEL,” is slated for launch in the year 2025. You can already reserve a copy of this exciting game on Steam, with the final cost details yet to be disclosed.

Additionally, Tribute Games unveiled the game titled “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge”, priced at a cost of $24.99.
