Among the timeless G1 Transformers characters, none stand out more than Soundwave, the malevolent Decepticon who morphs into a cassette player. Known as one of Megatron’s most trusted underlings, his distinctive design made him an instant hit among the first wave of 1984 Transformers toys. Children were captivated by this wicked robot, who concealed another miniature wicked robot within himself. Now, Soundwave is poised for a grand return in the newest LEGO set, following Optimus Prime and Bumblebee. Interestingly, this Soundwave LEGO Icons Transformers set has been designed explicitly for adult enthusiasts, as part of a partnership with Hasbro.

With the LEGO Icons Soundwave set, builders can craft their unique take on this Transformers series character, composed of 1,505 intricate pieces. This new Soundwave figure boasts poseable joints, a functional cassette deck, and effortless transitions between robot and cassette player forms – all without the need for taking apart. To make things even more exciting, pressing the LEGO Soundwave’s play button triggers special sound effects and voices, recreating the legendary Transformers toy and cartoon character in a whole new way. And yes, just like its famous quote suggests, he truly is “More than meets the eye.” Here’s hoping this means we’ll see more Decepticon characters joining later LEGO Icons sets and Transformers builds!
With Soundwave comes two buildable buddies, Ravage and Laserbeak, who transform into tiny cassette tapes that can slide neatly into Soundwave’s chest compartment. This set comes equipped with various accessories like a rocket pod, laser blaster, and darts, enhancing the action-packed realism of the collection. To top it off, a display plaque featuring Soundwave’s power stats makes this an impressive centerpiece for both home and office displays. Preorders for the LEGO Icons Transformers Soundwave set begin on August 1 for LEGO Insiders, and will be available to all shoppers starting August 4 via LEGO.com/Transformers and LEGO Stores at a price of $189.99.
