Universal Will Open UK Theme Park & Resort, Its First in Europe

Before the grand opening of Universal Epic Universe in Orlando, the company is already unveiling exciting new ventures. Instead of growing its theme park area locally, Comcast NBCUniversal has plans to establish a presence on the European continent for the first time. They’ve announced their intention to construct a colossal Universal theme park and resort in the United Kingdom, marking a significant expansion for the company across the Atlantic.

The first theme park and resort branded universally, owned by Comcast NBCUniversal, plans to expand to Europe. They are planning their first-ever European resort complex, constructing their next significant location on a 476-acre plot purchased in 2023, located about 35 minutes north of London via train. The park’s site is also connected by high-speed rail links to approximately 80% of England’s population and half the UK population within two hours of travel time.

Comcast NBCUniversal has announced plans to construct a United Kingdom version of their popular resorts, scheduled for completion in 2026. The proposed project includes a 500-room hotel alongside a retail, dining, and entertainment complex. Moreover, the “world-class” theme park will offer multiple themed areas showcasing Universal’s signature blend of immersive, thrilling rides, innovative attractions, and engaging entertainment.

The vague design for the UK Universal park doesn’t give us many clues about which specific lands it might feature. Based on what Universal has recently constructed, we can make an educated guess about which lands could potentially be included. (A “War of the Roses” land is probably not one of them, but one can only hope!)

As a movie enthusiast myself, I’m thrilled about our venture into Europe! This expansion opens up a fantastic chance for us to engage with new audiences and showcase the unforgettable moments our team crafts. Speaking from my position as Chairman and CEO of Universal Destinations & Experiences, I can confidently say that we’re aiming high – envisioning this park as one of the most frequented attractions on the entire continent, drawing in millions of new visitors to the UK.

If it’s just as spectacular as what other Universal theme parks worldwide are offering now, it’s likely to attract tourists from beyond the United Kingdom as well.
