Universal Rumored to Be Working on a Bold New Take on Frankenstein

Universal Pictures is once again exploring its timeless monster narratives. Following the unsuccessful 2017 ‘Dark Universe’ initiative, they are now concentrating on individual tales instead.

This change has given rise to new interpretations of classic figures such as the Werewolf and the Creature of the Black Lagoon.

Lately, our source, DanielRPK, has sparked curiosity with a tantalizing theory on his Patreon. He proposes that Universal Studios might be developing a fresh take on the ‘Frankenstein‘ tale.

In this scenario, a young Black man meets a tragic fate at the hands of a police officer, but miraculously, his grieving mother resuscitates him.

This plotline might provide a modern viewpoint on the timeless topics of life, mortality, and societal challenges.

Universal has been associated with ‘Frankenstein’ since the 1930s. Starting from the 1931 movie, their initial series laid the foundation for what we now recognize as classic horror films.

Throughout the decades, many different interpretations of Mary Shelley’s original work have emerged, adding unique twists to her classic story.

In 2025, I’ll be bringing my own unique take on a project I’m working on right now. You can look forward to seeing Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi in this adaptation I’ve been crafting.

It’s possible that this alleged project is Universal’s attempt at merging traditional horror themes with contemporary societal stories.

In my perspective as a film critic, revitalizing the classic tale of ‘Frankenstein’ can strike a chord with modern audiences by infusing it with contemporary issues and themes. This fresh take could serve as an engaging and thought-provoking dialogue about our society today.

Based on information shared by DanielRPK via Patreon, though not yet verified by Universal themselves, there’s strong indication that the studio is eager to breathe new life into their classic monster universe.

I’ll be on the lookout for any formal updates or additional information regarding this possible endeavor.
