It’s been verified by James Gunn that the development of Wonder Woman is indeed underway within the DC Universe, and contrary to speculation, it’s not the ‘Paradise Lost’ series that’s being developed at present.
Wonder Woman being worked on
According to a recent interview with EW.com, director James Gunn has confirmed that a separate Wonder Woman storyline is being developed. Although specifics about the plot are yet to be disclosed, it’s clear that Diana of Themyscira will have a significant impact on the future direction of the DC Universe.
“We’re working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman’s being written right now.”
Paradise Lost underway
I’ve got an update on the progress of the Paradise Lost prequel series for HBO Max, focusing on the Amazons of Themyscira – it’s still in motion, but we’re taking our time to ensure everything is just right.
“[Paradise Lost is] slow moving, but it’s moving.”
Gunn Backs Zaslav’s Comments
David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, has referred to Superman, Batman, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman as cornerstone figures and valuable assets for the DC brand. This viewpoint is supported by James Gunn.
“I believe what you’re saying is correct, and it seems to me that he might have picked up on this from something I mentioned earlier. While not limiting it to just those four characters, I do think they hold significant value for us.
No Wonder Woman Casting Yet
The piece additionally mentions that neither the cast for “Paradise Lost” nor the upcoming Wonder Woman movie has been announced so far. It’s speculated that Gunn may opt for a new actress to play Wonder Woman since Gal Gadot might not be available.
Gunn mentioned that he’s quite pleased with two of the characters, specifically Superman, portrayed by David Corenswet, and Supergirl, to be depicted by Milly Alcock. Regarding Batman and Wonder Woman, their development is yet to be fully determined.
Currently, I’m quite pleased with the development of two of those characters, while we’re handling the other pair.
No Creative Team Known
As a cinephile eagerly awaiting the next blockbuster, I can’t help but notice an intriguing silence regarding two highly anticipated films – Wonder Woman and Paradise Lost. James Gunn has only confirmed that the scripts are in development, yet no release dates for casting or production have been unveiled as of now.
Gunn’s Superman flies into theaters on July 11. Supergirl hits June 26, 2026.
