Ubisoft recently created a new studio called Vantage Studios, supported by Tencent, to oversee popular franchises like Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry. While many developers and leaders from these games were expected to move to the new studio, Marc-Alexis Coté, who previously led the Assassin’s Creed franchise, has decided to leave Ubisoft instead. This information came from an email sent to Vantage Studios staff, as reported by IGN.
Vantage Studios reportedly offered Coté a key leadership role, but he turned it down. Co-CEO Christoph Derennes expressed disappointment with this decision in a company memo.
Ubisoft released a statement thanking Patrice Désilets for his many years of work with the company and said they were sorry to see him go.
For two decades, Patrice Désilets (Coté) worked at the company, starting as a programmer and rising through the ranks to become lead level designer, creative director, and senior producer on the Assassin’s Creed games. In 2022, he took a leadership role in shaping the future of the franchise, meaning his impact will likely be felt for years to come.
News emerged last week that Ubisoft had scrapped plans for a new Assassin’s Creed game taking place after the American Civil War, which was intended for release in 2024. More recently, a possible release date for Assassin’s Creed Shadows on the next Nintendo Switch console has been revealed.
