Ubisoft Integrates Ethereum Name Service for Captain Laserhawk Universe

As a seasoned researcher with a keen eye for emerging trends in the gaming industry, I find this collaboration between Ubisoft and Ethereum Name Service (ENS) nothing short of revolutionary. Having followed the evolution of blockchain technology and its potential applications closely, I am particularly excited to see how this integration will transform the Captain Laserhawk Universe.

In partnership with Ethereum Name Service (ENS), Ubisoft is incorporating blockchain-identities into the gaming universe of Captain Laserhawk. This means gamers will now have unique, blockchain-backed identities within the game itself.

The First-Ever Gaming Collaboration of ENS

As per the recent update from Ethereum Name Service, players are set to receive customized Niji Warrior ID Cards, each associated with an ENS subname under the domain “edenonline.eth.

In this setup, character names within the game are associated with players’ Ethereum accounts, thereby establishing a consistent persona for users across the virtual world.

The integration ensures that players maintain familiar, easily-recognizable personas throughout the Captain Laserhawk Universe. As stated by the studio, this feature aims to boost player interaction and immerse them more deeply into the game.

Louis Garoche, Ubisoft’s Blockchain Technical Lead, stated that incorporating ENS into our projects has consistently seemed like a no-brainer for us. We take pride in presenting a unique strategy for decentralized identity.

Ensuring the safety of game items’ connections with Ethereum accounts, ENS tech upholds their originality and possession for gamers.

Ubisoft is set to debut “Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E.” – a Web3 style top-down shooter – on December 18, 2024. This game has been developed in partnership with the Arbitrum Foundation and will operate using the Ethereum layer-2 network, known as Arbitrum.

Web3 Gaming Expands with Major Industry Collaborations

In a similar move with other major game developers, Ubisoft is stepping up efforts to incorporate blockchain technology. Over the past year, both Ubisoft and SEGA have made investments in Web3 games like Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles and Battle of Three Kingdoms.

In September, Google Cloud joined forces with Solana Labs to introduce GameShift, a major advancement. This collaboration aims to simplify the process of adopting Web3 technology for developers by providing them access to digital wallets, tokenized assets, and on-chain marketplaces through the Google Cloud Marketplace.

In the summer of 2025, Mythical Games and FIFA are planning to introduce FIFA Rivals, a mobile game centered around football (soccer) that utilizes NFTs. This game will enable players to oversee teams and engage in live matches, marking the entry of blockchain gaming into the sports genre on iOS and Android devices.

The increasing role of blockchain in the gaming sector is highlighted by these advancements, stemming from partnerships forged between tech innovators and game creators.
