Tylor Chase, who many remember as Martin Qwerly from Nickelodeon’s Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, is currently experiencing homelessness in California. Police report that he regularly turns down help with housing and treatment. Officers are in contact with him about once a week, trying to offer support, as he is struggling with difficult circumstances.
According to Ryan Railsback, spokesperson for the Riverside Police Department, officers know Chase well and check on him regularly, about once a week. Railsback says the department’s Public Safety Engagement Team also offers assistance during these check-ins.
The Reno Police Department has a team dedicated to helping people experiencing homelessness. They offer access to things like temporary shelter, mental health care, and programs for substance use. Police state they’ve repeatedly offered these resources to Chase, but he has consistently declined them. They emphasize that it’s ultimately up to him whether or not to accept help with housing or treatment.
Riverside Police confirm no criminal issues
Police want to make it clear that Tylor Chase is not a suspect in any crime and doesn’t have any warrants out for his arrest. They also stated they haven’t yet spoken with his family. Officers described Chase as calm, polite, and cooperative during their interactions with him.
I’ve been following Tylor’s story, and what really strikes me is how different he is from what officers usually encounter. They’ve told me that while many people experiencing homelessness understandably react with anger or frustration, Tylor is always cooperative and polite. The police still check in on him regularly, making sure he’s okay, but they respect that he gets to decide if he wants help, unless there’s an immediate danger. It’s just a testament to his character, even in a really tough situation.
Here’s what police say about the viral videos and public concern
Videos showing Chase looking unwell and living on the streets of Riverside went viral on social media, drawing concern from fans of the show Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide. Police contacted Chase about the videos, and he reportedly didn’t mind them being shared.
A video circulating online shows someone asking Chase if he was a Disney Channel star. He corrected them, saying he was actually on Nickelodeon’s “Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide.”
The news led to responses from Chase’s former co-stars and other actors who started their careers as children. On a podcast, Lindsey Shaw, Devon Werkheiser, and Danielle Curtis Lee described the situation as both “shocking and heartbreaking.” Shaun Weiss, known for his role in The Mighty Ducks and his openness about his own journey to recovery, reportedly offered Chase a place to stay at a recovery center in San Clemente where he works.
