Tyla Shuts Down Critics After MTV VMAs 2024 Backlash Concerning Lil Nas X and Halle Bailey: ‘Y’all Make Everything…’

As an ardent fan of Tyla, I must say her journey has been nothing short of inspiring! From her electrifying performances at the BET Awards to her recent victory at the VMAs, she’s been a beacon of talent and resilience.

Tyla is handling the negative feedback following a playful moment during the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, where she asked Lil Nas X to support her VMA Award after winning the Best Afrobeat award on September 11th. Her request, made to Halle Bailey and J. Christ who were presenting, was captured in a clip that received criticism from social media users due to Tyla asking them to hold her ‘Moon Man’ trophy because it was heavy for her.

The award-winning musician jokingly mentioned her struggles with accepting awards, saying, “You all know my history with holding trophies. Oh, I can barely… I just don’t have the strength for it.

Simultaneously, Lil Nas X shyly took his award and made it possible for his acceptance speech to begin. Meanwhile, the actress from The Little Mermaid chose not to participate in the interaction but stayed hidden, which led some criticism on social media towards the singer of Truth or Dare.

Later on social media, the singer from Butterflies explained the circumstances more clearly. In a post on X (previously Twitter), she inquired as to why her words were being misconstrued and expressed that she didn’t want Bailey to be involved in the situation. She stated, “You all make everything complicated…”, implying that the incident was just a light-hearted moment.

She set the record straight, directing focus at more important things at hand, that is, her VMA win. She added, “I was not asking my girl Halle… We just girls, STFU I WON A VMAAAA.”

2024 saw Tyla’s moment to shine brightly. In June of that year, she graced the stage at the BET Awards, delivering an outstanding performance of her hit single Jump, a collaboration with Gunna and Skillibeng. Her act was a fusion of elements from her South African roots, showcasing painted tiger dancers symbolizing her fanbase, the ‘Tygers’, and a complex stage setup adorned with stilt walkers. The same evening, she clinched two out of four nominations, winning both Best New Artist and Best International Act.
