Twisted ‘Popeye’s Revenge’ Horror Movie Releases First Trailer

Everyone recognizes Popeye as the rugged sailor who often resolves conflicts with his fists and a can of spinach. However, he’s about to undergo a dramatic change. In a chilling new horror film produced by ITN Studios, Popeye is venturing into the slasher genre, offering much more than just his typical brawls.

Lately, some promotional images provided a glimpse, and now, the first trailer for the movie titled “Popeye’s Revenge” has been released, thanks to Bloody Disgusting (see below). This trend continues, as seen in “Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood and Honey“, where this independent film reinterprets the spinach-eating sailor as a brutal murderer. It represents another twist in the surge of traditional characters receiving horror remakes.

Among the two Popeye horror movies set to release this year, one is titled “Popeye the Slayer.” The other film, which goes by “Popeye: The Slasher,” is likewise approaching. This upcoming movie has been characterized as a ‘crude and gruesome slasher flick.’ To clarify, it’s not connected to the “Poohniverse” from the “Twisted Childhood Universe.

Before we reveal more information, here is the trailer, as we have promised:

As a cinephile, I found myself immersed in a chilling tale revolving around a band of hapless camp counselors, tormented by the ghostly lore of none other than the infamous figure, Popeye. Stepping into the shoes of this spectral antagonist is none other than Stephen Murphy. Rene August graces us with his producing prowess, while William Stead skillfully helms the director’s chair. This film promises to be a rollercoaster ride, living up to the expectations of such an audacious premise. For those who crave a thrilling horror experience, this might just be the movie for you!

Back in 1929, I came across this iconic character named Popeye, crafted by the brilliant Elzie Crisler Segar. Over the years, he’s made his mark on pop culture, gracing our screens through various mediums, like the legendary ’30s cartoons by Max Fleischer. Although Sony abandoned plans for a fresh animated Popeye film in 2010, now, there’s buzz about a live-action adaptation brewing at Chernin Entertainment. Michael Caleo is penning the script for this exciting new take on our beloved spinach-loving sailor man!

It looks like Popeye is ready to shock us again, this time with a bloody twist.
