TWIN PEAKS Music Played With a Cat Piano Toy Is Truly Surreal

It’s been a year since the passing of the incredibly talented David Lynch, but his impressive body of work continues to be enjoyed by many. Perhaps he’s best known for Twin Peaks – the original 1990 TV series, its prequel film, and the 2017 revival all remain iconic. The show has inspired artists for years, and even led to some surprisingly funny creations. Recently, Boing Boing highlighted an Instagram user named dave_thecatpiano, who plays well-known songs on a cat piano toy. He’s now performed Angelo Badalamenti’s atmospheric “Laura Palmer’s Theme” from Twin Peaks, and the result is delightfully amusing.

While the opening theme of Twin Peaks is arguably the show’s most famous piece of music, “Laura Palmer’s Theme” is equally memorable. The song perfectly captures the deep sadness surrounding the death of Sheryl Lee’s character, Laura Palmer, who is central to the entire story. Surprisingly, a version of the theme using silly cat meows is hilarious! Sometimes something so ridiculous is actually brilliant. We think the creators, David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti, would have appreciated the humor in it too, if they were still here.

The dave_thecatpiano account has a huge library of videos, mostly popular songs. They cover everything from classic artists like Fleetwood Mac to current hits by Taylor Swift and Kesha. But it’s not just pop – they also do themes from shows like Game of Thrones and the Peanuts theme song. We’d love to see them tackle music from David Lynch films – maybe Mulholland Drive or Blue Velvet? We’d especially love a cat piano rendition of Toto’s score from Dune; that would be amazing!
