As a huge fan, I’m loving the dynamic between Wednesday and Principal Weems! It’s so interesting to watch how Weems tries to help Wednesday navigate Nevermore, teaching her about fitting in (or trying to!). But honestly, Wednesday’s investigating a mystery and uncovering secrets actually ends up teaching Weems a lot about the school – things she probably should have known all along! What’s really cool is how Wednesday just refuses to play the game, and it forces Weems to really look at the choices she’s made to keep up appearances. It just proves how a student who doesn’t follow the rules can really make those in charge face some hard truths.

‘The Mentalist’ (2008–2015)

Patrick Jane, once a famous psychic, now helps the California Bureau of Investigation solve crimes using his keen ability to read people. He works alongside Agent Teresa Lisbon, and together they learn from each other. Jane shows Lisbon how to look beyond the surface, while Lisbon teaches him the value of following rules and trusting others. She keeps him grounded as he pursues a dangerous serial killer known as Red John, helping him maintain his sense of humanity. As a critic, I’ve always been struck by the beautiful dynamic between Ali and Rue in this series. He doesn’t sugarcoat things, offering her some much-needed honesty about addiction and recovery. But honestly, it’s Rue’s struggle that really impacts him. Watching her navigate the pressures of being a young person today, her setbacks and small wins, forces Ali to really rethink his approach to mentorship. He has to learn to meet her exactly where she is, emotionally. It’s incredibly moving to see how, through helping Rue, Ali rediscovers his own purpose and gains a profound understanding of the unique challenges and strengths of this generation when it comes to trauma and recovery.

‘My Hero Academia’ (2016–Present)

All Might, the world’s most famous hero, selects Izuku Midoriya to inherit his power and begins training him. As All Might focuses on the physical aspects of being a hero, Izuku’s intelligence and strong will show All Might what it really means to be heroic, even without natural abilities. This student-teacher relationship challenges All Might to rethink his impact and find fulfillment in guiding Izuku, rather than simply being a symbol of hope. Together, they demonstrate that true heroism comes from inspiring others, not just possessing strength.

As a huge Star Wars fan, I’ve always been fascinated by Anakin’s relationship with Ahsoka Tano.
